Why dont you try the dealer in the region the bike once lived to try and find if they have a service record for it based on the previous owners name
( assuming you know that) and then you can get the bikes old rego or vin number or whatever.
Ok its a long shot but hell , whats your option ?

    Wink

    Or, how bout this:

Get an old black plate that has been out of the system for a while and is not in their system. (You can ring LTNZ an ask when you find a plate). Then fit it to the bike. Make sure it has one of those old coloured rego stickers on it.

Then when you turn up to do the VIN (and you have the police papers with you) they can se that the bike used to be registered in NZ a long time ago, even if it is no longer in their system. Should do the trick.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

My impression is that there seems to be an enormous amount oif variation and greater or lesser give and take based on the personality of the LTSA dude involved.

    Which doesn't seem right

With old bikes (or cars) inevitably there are going to be a lot that don't have a perfect paper trail ("fished it out from under a hedge"). The systenm ought to be ablke to accomodate this.

If the thing is 50 years old and the police have no record of it how anal do they have to get , FGS. Shit, on that basis some of the wouldn't VIN me - I'm more than 50 years old, have no police record, but no record of previous ownership.

Sadly the owner that deregistored the bike I'm trying to re registor is not coming to the party in sending me the simple note that he sold bike to me.
VTNZ won't touch it until I can prove where I got it from.
