Where can I buy a new C50?

In Parnell yesterday, spied what I thought was possibly the cutest bike ever. Looked like a ground-up restoration of an original 60s-style Honda C50 Cub. Showroom condition. Got closer and realised why it looked so beautiful -- it was brand new!

It's called a Honda C50 Little Cub. 14" wheels (a little smaller than the original, I think), electric start, gorgeous silver and black two-tone paintwork.

I think this is possibly the perfect bike for my girlfriend. She needs an electric start, feet on the ground, step-through, not having to worry about a clutch -- but reasonable sized wheels, a proper bike dynamic, and most of all a bit of class and adorable pat-on-the-seat love for her mode of transportation. Four-stroke, reliable, economical, well-built. Something I can take for a spin too This is the bike!

Who has seen these for sale new? Emmachizzit? Need moar testride!

That picture I posted up doesn't have the leg guards, so it looked even better when I saw it!

In the UK, for local commuting, just perfect. Ground away the Rh legshield on a favourite roundabout. Did 300 miles in a day, once.

A green 76 Honda C50 was my first motorcycle. great touring bike. Did 5 trips from Auckland to Dargaville on that little beasty. All at 70km/h max.

Ahhh the first bike I learned to ride on, the trusty C50. My older brother had a C90, we had races everywhere on those.

I rode a Coconut Green C50 almost daily for 7 years.It was great on the gravel roads I had to use - the bigger wheels than a scooter help,and the leading link front end just floats over the bumps.You could carry some pretty big things in one arm too....although the chainsaw I was carrying broke my sparkplug over some corrugations.I had to ride over a twisty hill and back every day....and it was a real test of the C50's ability.I would see how far up the hill I could get morning and night before having to change down into 2nd - there was some heroic high speed cornering,and the odd excursion into the water table....and a tail wind was a big advantage.A trick was not to run the recommended oil capacity....this caused drag on the crankshaft and cut power drastically.100ml less made all the difference....maybe a 50% power increase.

Got ours from a garage sale. Connie used it for round town duties until we took it into a m/c shop for a wof. They insisted we had to rereg it, was registered as a moped, as a motorcycle before they would issue the wof.

But but but, if it's rego'd as a moped it doesn't NEED a WoF. So, tell them to go suckj and exhaust pipe.

That's very tempting, I've seen the engines split open and even I can wrap my head around it. Have it laid out on the dining room table by elevenses.

Problem is, despite probably being able to start the bastard with my hand, an electric leg is a must for the young Miss X. Probably some kind of mental barrier, but I know better than to delve into the mind of a female.
