    That's a bit simplistic though

If Copper X is focusing on a specific group (say, old ladies on zimmer frames) because he has had complaints about their behaviour(dead dodgy lot those grandmas); or because he has observed, or has reason to believe, that their behaviour will break a lot of laws, then I see that as valid. A cops job is to maintain the peace. If some particular group is disruptive of the Rule of Law it's quite valid for him to concentrate on them. The ATNR may or may not fall into this category, depending on how many nanas attend it.

But if Copper X is targeting motorcyclists because he has a personal grudge against grandmas , and thinks that "all old ladies are scum, and zimmer frames should be forced off the road", then that is another matter and in my opinion , improper.

The realtive context can be more easily seen if one mentally substitutes, say, Maoris for motorcyclists.

"Police are focusing on a group of Maoris, because that same group has been the cause of previous complaints". Seems fine to me

"Police are focusing on a group of Maoris because we hate Maoris and want to make their lives miserable". Not so good.

I can see then that residents of properties bordering the roads that are common routes for the ATNR would be quite likely to go, Grrrrr! it's those bloody bikies again!" and get on the blower to the polis. Doesn't matter whether there's law-breaking involved (which of course there never is ) - a group of twenty or so bikes roaring past would give the impression of malfeisance. Heck, if they were going past my house every Thursday I might consider ringing the cops too. And because the polis don't have any other crimes to investigate, of course they'd be interested in an excuse to chase a few bikes, bust a few hoons, boost their ticket quotas...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

True that, and fair enough if that is the case. But I have to say that it seems this ginga takes it to bikers everywhere, not just solely 16 on Thursday nights. That makes a difference.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Are you forgetting something??

    Arguing is futile - a = (the obvious one) or b = don't get caught or c = don't stop or d = stop bitching about it

Funny you should say that. I had someone have a rant at me today complaining about bikers racing by at well over 100km/h on old north road/peak road.

HP, STU, TAG, CVIU and SCU are funded to focus on Road Policing only. GDB, CIB, TP etc focus on crime/disorder etc. The only time that will change is when Govt mandate funding differently to what it is now.... I see another $13M is mandated for more road policing too.

    There's residents there? where?
No seriously, there are FA and they are well back from the road in the vast majority of the cases. No hooning takes place in or around built up areas. However I do get the distinct impression that the cops are trying hard to tell us that quiet open country roads are not the place for this type of riding.

I seem to remember a post a while back that talked about one family that live along this road saying that they no longer bothered going to the bike races. They just sat on their porch on any weekend, watched the road, and waited...
