    Metal protection

Anybody knows how to treat the metal so the rust will not touch it? I don’t mean chroming or painting, cause I want for my tanks the bear metal look… Some electroplating with somethin’… donow…
    Cheers

Aluminium! Make a new tank from aluminium, then even when it starts to tarnish and scratch, it looks even more gorgeous

    Now that's an idea!

Clear coated will oxidate in time... a friend of mine done a very god job but in one and a half years the metal turn dull.

Paint it with Winston Peters' 'NO' Coat, nothing touches that.

Get a custom paint job that makes it look like it's raw metal

+1 on the custom paint - You can make it look just how you want it - but be prepared to drop 2-3k (or more).

How about making it out of stainless steel? Not sure if you can treat non-stailess to become stainless. Other than keeping it oiled, laquered or plated I dont see it staying bright.

Stainless is made with chrome and few other things to keep it from oxidizing. So can't turn stainless steel to non stainless.

You either need to make the tanks from a non ferris metal or protect them with a film of some kind.
Gold or zinc passivation may be an option if you are set on steel?

Ok rust is a by product of an electrical process, zink plating and galvanizing are both forms of sacrificial coatings, they will both degenerate over time, if you wish to have bear ferrous metal out in the weather and not have it rust then you need to seal the metal off so that oxygen can not come in contact with it, you may find that some two pack paint systems may be suitable for this or a backed on enamel coating, my exsperience with powder coating is that it does not last well out in the enviroment, it also seems very prone to chiping and scratces.
