Best place to buy brake parts

    Hi,

I'm in Wellington and I'm going to rebuild the front calipers on my 79 Suzuki GS550e. Can anybody recommend the best place to get parts?

    Cheers in advance.

Which parts do you need made? Just the seals? Or the pistons as well? Anything else?

I haven't pulled them apart yet so I'm hoping for just the seals and dust covers.

At a pinch on a well maintained bike, you can potentially do without the dust covers. Means cleaning the pistons with a tooth brush and hot soapy water at regular intervals, but the dust covers are generally the hardest pieces to obtain (although check with Suzuki). Seals themselves shouldn't be any trouble... I'm guessing something of that era will have 1-1/2" caliper pistons, plenty of seals around for those, available from any decent brake specialist.

Would someone like SEL have seals? for these, i know they stock every single seal they can possible order however they usually are pretty standard sizes.
I would definetely suggest taking the old one's in there and seeing what the guy says (Ex bike mechanic), look for the older guy. This is SEL in petone btw.

    Nasty!
Sounds like about $500.00 of genuine parts there.

Who is SEL? General engineering suppliers don't typically stock anything useful for brake fluid, although Engineering Plastics do.

Yeah, wouldn't be cheap in genuine, aftermarket is probably around $20 though (dust seals not withstanding).
