    What would you do?

I re listed my Bike on trade me last night.
Later that night I find that the reserve is 10% of the reserve I set... and checked.

My problem, now the reserve has been met and the option to edit the reserve is gone.

    Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark.

Trade me say I am liable for it as it is a legally binding contract.
    What do you say?

Don't give the bike away. Be prepared to buy it yourself.
Put a buy now up and buy it yourself - figure out how.
    Then start again.

    Duh, do the obvious.

You went for a ride on it for the last time and you smashed into a plane carrying twenty donkeys, twelve girraffes, all of which had two kilos of marijuana hidden in their asses.

Have fun relisting it next week though.

be farking careful if you do this as its against the trade me terms and conditions (and I think it's not legal in an auction also). but definitely don't give it away.

Should be able to get something for 64 kilos of dope...

Shame I am not a drug dealer heh?

I can withdraw the auction, but could be banned for doing so...
Hardly seems fair when it was running fine with the right reserve before I went out.

Hmmm just wait and see how it goes? Then if you're not happy at the last min make up a trademe user and bid yourself then tell trademe the buyer isn't replying to you etc etc and they'll refund the auction fees and let you re-list.

What others have said. And BTW , honest error is (under many circumstances) a valid and lawful reason to avoid a contract.

I would also suggets that it is questionable whether the offering of something on Trademe amounts to a contract. Arguably it is merely an invitation to tender, akin to putting an article in a shop window. Although Trademe refer to their process as an 'auction' it it doubtful whether it is legally so: and Trademe do not hold an auctioneers licence.

IANAL. But I would be interested in any comment that those site members who are lawyers - there are several- might care to make. Mr HDC ?

If a genuine mistake has been made and cant be fixed by tardme then there are not many options.

You could always get a "stranger" you trust to bid on it

Not too sure if I understand correctly, you set and checked the reserve and then it changed by its self to 10% of what you set before ? If that is the case tell trade me their system screwed up and so you are withdrawing it from auction and will not be selling anything until they sort their system out.
If they ban you, you will have to re-register under a new name and start again. maybe send them an email explaining what has happened and asking what they are going to do about their stuffed up system.

Get some advice or find someone you really trust.

If you are thinking of setting up another account be very careful - some geek advice is useful here. You need a different internet access (IP address) and email address. Best to get a real person with an existing account to be the person bidding.

Withdraw the auction. State the reason why, "it was listed with an incorrect reserve in error". No shame in that surely!

List it as a classified. NO questions to answer, cheaper than an auction to list, free relists.
