You are totally correct regarding a Police car coming up behind you or heading towards you though. As the rules seem unclear on this point I would think there is even more reason for the cop to indicate to avoid confusion and possible ensuing accident. Especially in light of previous well publicised incidents.
    Agreed.
So these cops should be done for careless use or at the very least failing to give way. I've had it happen and my son just about Tee boned one.

If you lay a complaint be prepared to be hassled for at least 6 months (had that happen) they'll pull you or your family over for a check (Tui anyone) every time they see you, at least in small town NZ they do.

How the hell can you stay out the way if you haven'yt got a fukin clue where he's going!
The initial post said he turned on his lights and pulled left then turned right into a 'U' turn! no indication of what his intensions were
To say we all around him have to grind to a halt while he figures out what he wants to do is ridiculous.
The little orange lights on each corner of his cage are there to 'indicate' his intension to manouver in addition to the big blue and red ones on his roof to indicate his presence.

BTW what ever became of that cop who caused those guys to crash in the buller gorge. Did he get done?
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

So how does that work at accidents scenes. The ones with lots of flashing lights. (red and blue). Where they constantly tell people NOT to slow down, let alone stop?

Or, if I am driving along the road and I see a cop car ahead, lights flashing, with another car pulled up in front of him. Common sense says "quota. Poor bugger. Keep driving". Should I instead stop , in case he should decide to pull a U turn in front of me without warning? I doubt that would be well receivd by the cop, especially on a busy road.

Fire trucks have to obey speed limits. 110km/h on the open road and 70km/h in a 50 zone. Pass them if you are sure that you are not going to get in their way, but remember they could be turning the next corner and the indicators can be hard to see with all the other flashing lights going.
Also some older fire trucks are a bit slow and sometimes we just ain't in that much of a hurry, all depends what sort of job we are going to.

Trust me you see some of the worst driving when you are sitting in the front seat of a fire truck. It is a real education in just how little attention drivers pay to what is on the road around them, you would think they would see a big red truck with flashing lights and a siren - but no, they seem to have their eyes welded shut.

I kinda presumed that RadioMan was saying that fire trucks have speed limits that they have to obey - speed limits specifically for them not the standard speed limits for general road users. Presumably because they are too big and heavy to travel at very high speeds without risking the lives of other road users.

Yep....something to do with the gazillion gallons of water in the back I'd suspect?

If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

Nope. For sure they carry hoses and have a pump, but if you consider the weight and bulk, they certainly carry far more water.

Perhaps the cop is wanting a car between himself and the oncoming unobservant jackass drivers as he approaches the other vehicle?
Or do you think he should just be open to someone driving into him from behind?
Get over it and drive/ride a little closer to the centreline for a few metres.

Nowadays they do a simulated traffic stop and a simulated pursuit (at 50kmph of course) and some skid pan work (which is actually kinda useful....).

Get heart rate up a little did he lol and you don't do that to yrself on the bike ?
Logical... but logic is not a tool the common driver has in their arsenal.... Fair call about indicating and all, but if they can't see the red and blues strobing, they aint gonna see the orange blinkers......

Yep, sure should... but mistakes can turn into habits....

iv tryed doing a complaint before, you give them the details but they dont really care, protecting there own, its just a waste of time.

Times have changed. Prosecute is the preferred option these days....

i know its a big game and cops like a chase,

All of this post was actually quite good, except for this little piece..... It aint a game and chases are shit. The paperwork alone makes it not worthwhile...

oh yer quit trawling at 80 kmph for your quota and stop holding traffic up too.
i know your not all bad, but i seldom see a good one.

Trawling at 80? Way too fast... the idea is to turn around as soon as poss... making sure nothing is on your arse when you do so. (Nothing ever behind me while "trawling...") Holding up traffic while trawling? That'll be a newbie....

there i feel better now. lol.

Shouldn't be shagging in the back seat while driving then....

So the cop has some cover while at the drivers window (ie: standing on the roadway) from oncoming vehicles who either do not see the flashing lights or are keen on driving at him / her to give a fright - or worse....

Hmm, failed the driving test first time - it was a wet day and I was drifting the car around the bends and through the cones waaaay too much, it seems that is NOT the way to do it.

Passed second time easily - 'cos I drove like a nana.
