Why do people keep asking when I'm going to upgrade my bike??

especially to a 'gixxer' (hate that term anyway), the old Katana blew a clutch hose this morning & a workmate kept going on about buying a new GSXR or (his) Ducati. After explaining "I dont like the look of modern bikes & riding something that resembles a coloured fridge doesnt do it for me & I like my old Kat, which BTW is 22 years old & if all your 'gixxer' or Duck (Ducati riders hate that term for sure) needs after 22 years is a clutch line then you can start to give my bike shit & I may just listen".
a sticker on the fairing of a GSX doesnt make it a Katana

Mate Katanas are currently in that stage of being borderline of "classic" and "really old", to an untrained eye it seems as if a Katana is sooo old and doesnt bear the looks of the cliche bike like the R1 for instance. And then they ask these stupid questions, just wait a few more years and it will be worth more than any modern GSXR.

Couldn't agree more! and that Katana looks bloody tidy from what i can see of it in your avatar, not too many of those around in really nice condition.
Niero is dead right regarding its potential to appreciate.
My bike is 29 years old and no-one (apart from a couple of smart arse mates) asks me dumb questions like that, most of them are stunned that a bike that old can be in such good nick and worth so much

    I actually AGREE with you!
I'd love to get hold of an E27 1100 Katana like Katman's, or even a minter E24 alloy wheel model.
    Genuine Katanas are rightly classics

    Geez!!! have you been drinking???

Yeah, I wouldn't mind another wire wheeler - I had one new as well as a GSX1100XX earlier, should have kept both of them they'd be worth heaps now

I like the idea of going to Ralleys, My 30 year old Yammy is often the only one there, amoung the dozens of "common " ducks, frumpys, suzies, chundas, hardley devistatings, kawafuckies, apehilliers, spewels.

Then the nice thing that happens, is that heaps of people stop look at it say
    "I remember those old girls,"
"My mates had one of those, they were quick in their day,"
"Good to see one of these still on the road mate"

Yeap our older bikes may not have all the flare , cool points, speed or chick pull of the newer ones,,
Let alone the "six pot calipers, floating discs, upsidedown forks, fuel injection, Bla bla bla
BUT they dont have to earn respect from anyone

Katanas, Xsessives, CB4"s, Water Buses, K1's, to name a few old school jappas have already earnt that respect. They dont have to prove anything.

Ride you Kat with pride mate, she will be still eating up the miles when many more modern fanplastics are dead and gone from memory
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.

I don't see any point in disposing of a bike before it's properly run in. Say, 250000 k is a good figure

    Cool

I have never had a bike that was made after 80's. And don't have any interest in having one. As soon as you have to plug a computer to it to do anything I loose interest.

May the bridges I burn light the way.
