    Am I insane?

So i've been riding since April and done a good 2000k pottin round town and out an about and am thinkin bout drivine 2 kaitaia from Hamilton in a couple of weeks time. I've got a lil 225 scorpio and was wonderin if this is a reasonable mission or if I'm being completely insane an a lil unrealistic, I have all day and possibly 2 so I don't mind takin my time but just wanted some opinions on it!!

Well it's not that longer a ride. You might however get a bit bored and you will need to look out for strong gusts of wind. I recon if you plan your rest breaks before hand you will be fine. Good luck.

    Go for it.
Start fairly early in the AM and keep your riding to maximum of an hour.---Just due to your experience level.

You want to go to Kaitaia ? You are definately insane. But if you must, the Scorpio will be fine. Probably get stolen 30 seconds after you hit town, but other than that it's all good.

If EJ can ride up this way on a little green FXR150 (yes I did see you filling up at the local servo EJ) then you'll manage just fine. Plenty of stops. Plenty of food and water. Regular fuel stops. Most of all just make sure you enjoy your trip

Nah, your not insane, you'll have a ball, don't try and break any Hamilton to Kaitaia speed records. Take your time, take pictures and enjoy the trip.

all good, in the past i have done wellington to auckland and back on a 250 several times, usually leaving wellington on fri at dusk and leaving aucks for the return sun noon ish.

worst thing ever was getting so cold coming up one night i had to wake up people at the motel in waioru at 2 in the morning to prevent myself freezing to death.

also i did get a sore arse after hours in the saddle but aside from that all good.

Oh yea, good point. Take all your wet/warm gear, even if the weather looks ok. Nothing cocks an adventure up more than being cold and wet, turns a great trip into a bloomin chore.
    Oh bugger

My nephew rode his VTR250 from Wgtn to Auckland once... said it was a journey he would never forget and that he had a sore arse and real sore neck afterwards but all in all a do-able trip... go for gold, just watch out for all those road users that dont see bikes.

2000kms of skills? You are insane! Just watch out for the rail road in Kawakawa town

Also careful when going through the Mangamuka Gorge. Apart from that, everything is fine Just let the weather shine upon you.

P.S. Ironic... I too had a Scorpio, it is a marvelous bike aint it?

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Plan your route and only worry about the road between you and the next fuel stop. Dont think too far ahead...it numbs the brain. Just enjoy ....
