    Quick question re FXR

Just noticed yesterday that the digital speedo on my FXR looks like its only being lit from one side. Is this normal? Ie one side is darker than the other...

I only ask cause i cant remember what it looked like before....

If it is meant to be equally lit then how can i locate and fix the problem. Thanks.

I had the same problem. The digi dash's have 2 LED bulbs, one on each side. They don't usually blow... The common occurence is that the solder that holds them onto the circuit board (and thereby gives them power to shine) gets broken from all the vibrations.

Carefully dissassemble the dashboard and look for broken bits! Then solder with care... After you get the bulb soldered back on the board, my suggestion is to go crazy with a hot glue gun to stop the solder from coming away again. The problem with mine was that the solder was the only thing holding the digi dash panel in place! So heaps of hot glue later, no problems!!!

Although it could just be a bulb...
Missus: What the f*&k is that???!!!! Where the f*&k do you think that's going??
Me: It's a [insert old broken vehicle here] can't you tell?
Missus: Oh for f*&k's sake... [slams door]
Me: Phew, lucky she didn't see what's on the trailer!

mine had the same problem a tap on the screen worked for me while out riding at night until i had the time to pull it apart.
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

    Question FXR Speedo: Calibration?

I have two questions that I think tie in with this thread:

1/ Does anyone know if it is possible to calibrate the digital speedo of the FXR150 internally? I checked mine with a Navman GPS, and it's somewhere between 10 and 20 % inaccurate, it overstates the speed. Apparently this is normal for this bike, but if it's possible to calibrate I'll crack it open and have a go.

2/ Has anyone opened these speedos up to relace a bulb? I want to change the backlighting from orangey-white to blue. I know you can get little silicon blue bulb covers from Repco, made by narva, and you can also get blue LED bulb replacements too, but I don't know what sort of bulb is in there, and I thought I'd ask before opening it up, to see if anyone on the forums here has already been there and done that?

    Cheers,
    Sam.

    Hi samgab,

It's possible to get a speedo corrector ( little black box that goes between the speedo cable and the speedo unit. I don't know about calibrating them internally though.

As for the bulbs the units are quite easy to get apart (I had to fix a bulb on mine), never tried putting different bulbs in though

Cheers for that, I'm going to try to get a speedohealer. I can't find anywhere in NZ that sells them, and I can't find any on trademe right now. Might have to get one in from overseas...

I'm sure that a simple variable resister soldered into the right place would solve the problem though... I just wonder if they already have one in there somewhere. I'll just have to find some time and open it up for a look.
