He was lane splitting, fucked it up and made love to a car that wasn't prepared for a lane invasion by a bike.

Who was at fault - the bike for lane splitting in peak hour traffic, or the car for not seeing the innocent biker going about his business making temporary lanes?

From a personal safety point of view yes.

If you are in their lane and they move into you then yes.

If you are in a lane and a car changes from their lane into yours without indicating or checking first then legally muddy at best NO.

But there's no point in being dead right.

I'm on the side of lane splitting being done entirely at your own risk. If there were separate little skinny bike dedicated lanes inbetween the car lanes, 'specially designed for bikes to split the traffic, then that might be a different story. (Even then cars would no doubt hog that space too!) But short of that I find it hard to accept bike riders "blaming" cars when we squeeze up inbetween them like a stinky dog trying to get between the two occupants of a bed... but I digress....where was I? Oh dear.

Not at all - it's more that I have had a few close calls with lane splitters this week, including one passing me while I had the bells and whistles operating on the work vehicle... seems I was only doing my job to make passage for him/her.

And today, I've witnessed so much more senseless riding/driving and hell even pedestrian bollocks, that I think someone has doubled the dose of Gene-o-kleen in the water supply!

And dare I say it, I have had a gutsfull of people managing to make any incident that they or anyone else have had on two wheels sound like the fault of anyone but the person actually riding the bike.

I dunno... I'm either getting old or I'm way too sober for a Friday night...

+1. I lane split like a nana, and regularly make way for the guys who want to travel between the cars at a faster pace.

Well that was stupid, your flashing lights clear the way quite nicly and all you need to do is tuck in behind to get a clear run on the motorway, no point in passing.
