If I turn a corner and see a checkpoint I'm usually pretty relaxed about the idea. If I know I have a lapsed warrant or rego I just put my indicator on and pull into a driveway and ride up to the house. I knock on the door and ask for someone that I know isn't there and go through the whole sorry wrong house or wrong street routine. I then say thank you walk off to the bike and ride out and away back up the street.

With a bit of luck they aren't home.

Of course if you see a bike in the drive you could always tell them why you stopped in etc.

It's the elaborate u-turn routine designed not to look like a u-turn.

If there are no houses then... I'm still happy and relaxed and hope for the best. I've been pretty lucky when i've been warrant or rego less.

I guess if there is no house you could always try the Pull out the map book and look lost routine... I never tried that but you could make a good routine out of it.

Or how about the "I got a flat routine ... that would entail hoping off the bike, checking the tyre etc"

Or the "engine problem routine... that would entail pulling over and a jerky pulling over like the bike is spluttering would be good, then proceed to dismatle the bike" Could be really useful if there was some maintenance you wanted to do. You could even disconnect the spark plug lead while you're down there and hop on and try starting the bikle over and over. Your choices are then

a/ push the bike back around the corner (like you're pushing it to a gas station or something)
b/ phone a friend and wait for pick up
c/ leave the bike there and walk off (returning later when the checkpoint is gone)

So what would be the most elaborate fake routine you could think of.

You could stop at the side of the road and discretely remove your number plate if you were planning on the runner... I'm not a fan of the runner thing. It seems you potentially put you or other road users at risk. While it may seem fun in the movies it just seems such a dumb thing to do. Unless of course you're local and can ride across some unforgiving terrain or down a walkway but even then, it's still not me.

Seen all the above 'excuses' and then some.

None of them have put me off, I still speak to the driver/rider check them and their wheels out.

My cousin was riding his bike in front off me.he told me he was freaking out because he was on a zzr 400 and he only has a full car licence and no motor cycle licence.lucky for him they didint ask for his licence.once he was pulled over he said on his old zxr 250 back in the days and the cop gave him a warning that was all.

Are you serious? I stopped a swaying, pants down, talking to a rubbish bin woman drinking a BEER in the drivers seat of her car in the middle of the week at 3pm, where parents pick their kids up from school.

She put my neighbourhood at risk.

And to the thread starter. You made a stupid decision, maybe because you had been drinking.

I wish we had more checkpoints - night and day.
My husband wouldnt have suffered and then died unnecasarily.
He wouldnt have had to suffer a scene like a horror movie.
There are no words to describe the awful feeling to watch someone you love go through hell and die, and watch your world crumble.
My kids would still have their father.
I ask you to please go to my album, or www.badd.co.nz and see what stupid and unsafe decision making does to others lives.
There are alternative transport options readily available.

In 2005 there were 3 million license holders, in a self reported annonymous study, 900.000 drivers said they'd drunk and drove.

Well, on the Coromandel yesterday (Sunday) they set up two checkpoints, one on each side and proceeded to pull over ever bike and only bikes. We were given a small lecture on the high fatalities on bikes in the area shown graphs and given a DVD and key ring. We also had to produce our licences.

I didn't get the said DVD and keyring but Coroglen Tavern was full of bikers having lunch who had.

Due to an oversight on my part I had left my licence behind. I also had my rego expire the day before. I thought it expired on the Sunday only to realise on Saturday night that I had the dates wrong. So i rode Sunday thinking I'd be able to talk my way out of a ticket and luckily wasn't issued one. I spoke to another rider who got $400 for expired reg and warrant. He'd shot through the gravel on the way up and was lucky to have only got one checkpoint.

I agree with the drink drive comments. And drink riding ones. On a bike you need all the concentration you can get.

    Totally agree....

I mean why do you have to drink at all when riding a bike...what is the point...safety one issue...that 1 beer may be the difference in your reactions...what is the thrill...beats me.

    Katman where are ya....
