Taking a 250 to the track?

    Hey guys,

I'm geting my licence back later this month and I'm going to take my speeding off the road..

Went to the puke trackday today to watch my step dad ruin his rear tire lol (icekiwi around these parts) and I really want to start attending these shindigs

    Just a couple questions.

Is a 250 just too small to take on the track (I have a zxr250 )??

How many of you guys out there take there 250's to the track?

I would like to think that a trackday would be alot of fun but I think being on a 250 ill just be getting in the way even in the sloooow group.

As always any help will be apreciated lol

Cheers to you bro, the tracks the way, save your life and others.
I have been thinking of taking my zeal on the track, i know alot more 250 riders that are keen to, maybe some 250 kbers could all go down. And all go at own pace, plus your zxr would cain my bike (even though ive got 3 hp less).
That way you wouldnt feel undermined or slow, with me and the ninjas yards back

Haha good shit!! lol I know Frosty had an idea for a novice trackday.. It sounds like a good thing to do but its more of a drving course I think.

Maybe we could maybe get club 250 on here to host a day or even if there enough of us keen to have a 250 group on a normal trackday..

That sounds good im definitely keen for that, club 250 would probs organize something. I want to try to get some gn250 or hyosung riders along so i wont feel bad about my riding lol but every one at own pace i guess. I might just pm a mentor or someone like that and enquire just to see if it could work out before anything official goes down.

I think Icekiwi could probably tell you what you need to know on this, I've seen him at trackdays. The "slow group" is for slow riders... If people are fast enough to go lapping everyone they move up to the next class.

How many people take their little bikes to the track? I took my zxr250 to taupo and had a great ride. Rode with a few other 250s, saw scooters (albeit hopped up 250 beasts lmao), and even passed a few 600's and other bikes (offcourse untill the straight). Point is, it isn't too small and in group 4 (slow) it is fine.

As for the group 250 thing, I think it's a little pointless? There are 250 riders that will destroy the average 600 around the track, and ones that are more likely to see a vespa up their inside on the way out of a sweeper. Making one for inexperienced, new riders would work better IMO

Yeah I know its at your own pace and what not but when im tooting along on my baby ninja I dont want to be passed by big bad 600s all the time..

I started this thread cos I didn't see any 250's at the track today.

I went round Taupo on a VTR250 and had a ball. ZXR250 in good order should touch 180kph - on the back straight at Pukekohe you may feel the need for some sandwiches while you wait for the hairpin.

Basically go for it. If anyone cuts you up in the noobie group speak to the organisers and point the bastards out.

In my opinion Pukekohe is a tad to straight for a small capacity bike but Taupo is superb coz it has lots of corners.

Hampton Downs looks like it will be the shizzle though.

Go for it - the track is your oyster.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

Yeah taupo looks like quite a mean track for getting technique.. lots of corners lol.. I think my bike will hate me if i took it to puke.. shes sitting on 72000 ks haha

hey I took my Ninja 250 to the AMCC Track day on 4th April and Pukekohe and I had a fantastic time. No it's not too small, I mean it gets cained by the bigger bikes, but hey it's all about fun, learning and a way to do massive speeds without getting slapped with tickets by the coppas ;D

It was my first time out and I've totally been bitten by the track bug will be going again Mon 20th to the Redline Track day at Pukekohe might bump into you on the track........have fun.

I've done 5 track days down at Taupo and every time there's a great assortment of random bikes in the slow group.

MotoTT would be the best to start with as group 4 well policed to keep it newbie and slower bike friendly.

A ZXR250 is more than fast enough. Yes you'll get passed on the straights but that happens to everyone as there are always different bikes in every group.

Just to give you an idea I ride T1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and sometimes 8 in 2nd gear on my 600.

Here's a pretty slow couple of laps from the time before last when I was focusing on lines. Have picked up the pace a little since so am moving up to G2
