You can't work that one out on your own, yet you say there is no shame in admitting so?

I beg to differ, in future, I would suggest you suffer in silence.

Having employed a fair few people over the years I have learnt that the ones who never admit they are wrong or that they have stuffed up are a long term liability because they never learn , nor do they ever change their ways so secure are they in their world of ignorance, I get rid of them asap because they are a liability . We never stop learning, to err is human, it is the best teacher.

Agreed. Would you rather I blame the other guy for going too slow and making me want to pass him? It's called an attitude of humility, realising that whenever we point fingers at anyone else, there are 3 fingers pointing back at us, and that in situations like with mine we can't blame anyone except ourselves.

If you ask me, being able to admit you have made a mistake is an attitude that all bikers have, as that is how you learn, just as trustme said.

ive had that about half a dozen times... once with susan on the back. every single time i nearly shat myself. once i nearly hit the ute that did it, cos i moved left around some cars waiting to turn right. think the guy was stoned, cos he didnt look up when i swore in his open window.
now, i watch whats behind me and keep moving in the lane. i dont stay in the right wheel track the entire time. sometimes im there, then in the middle, then left. if they look like they are going to undertake, i move and block them as best i can. overtake, fine, but dont pass on the feckin right.

and yeh, there are some useless riders around as well. two of us nearly had a run in a few weeks back. me sitting at the front at a RAB giveway. traffic from the left, so i wait. hear a bike coming behind me, and he goes past the cars behind and waits next to me on the right. traffic clears, and we both move off. i expected him to be behind as i moved first. had to haul it right as there was a car stopped at the ped crossing that i didnt see until i was moving. in the same instant, the cock sucker overtakes! so we were right next to each other when i moved right. how the hell it didnt result in an accident i dont know. musta been bloody close. why the hell overtake on a single lane RAB? why not wait until we are over the bridge? maybe, being a sprots rider, he was annoyed at a cruiser being in front? dunno, but it gave me a fright.

I'm not advocating not admitting your mistake.
I am not advocating not admitting you are wrong.
By all means sleep on the floor, beat yourself up - whatever.

But looking for absolution by publicly admitting you are thick is looking for acceptance of your stupidity.
Stupidity should not be accepted, encouraged, supported or taken lightly.
The next dickhead mistake may be his last - sorry there is insufficient time to afford the luxury of learning from dumb mistakes.

Granted but, there are those that will never admit to a fuckup, they will always lay blame on something else, never themselves. There was talk after my last group of an incident (nothing come of it) in which, some were appalled at an overtaking manouver by someone. Nothing was said to the person involved at the next stop, nothing at all. It happens, it will continue to happen.

When and where did I say I was looking for acceptance of it? I know it was wrong and I was admitting it. I posted it to say what a dumb thing it was to do. I fail to see how that means I want my stupidity in that situation to be accepted.

The only thing that I would want to be accepted out of that is that I have learned my lesson and won't do it again, and that I realise it was a stupid thing to do. It's not like I am glamorising doing something dangerous. Perhaps someone will see what I have said, realise how lucky I was and think twice before doing the same thing.

Very true unfortunately. One day that attitude of "it's everything/everyone elses fault" is going to cost them dearly. You can't run from an attitude like that forever. I know what you are saying about nothing being said to the person in question with that situation. It's not easy but we need to learn to say something in situations like that. It will always happen, as we cannot control what others do but at least if we do our bit to try and educate others e.g. by saying something in a situation like that, we are at least doing the right thing.

You never did. You didn't have to.

You may also note my reply wasn't to you and just as trustme was talking in generalities so was I - or were you applying for a job with him?

Applying for a job with him? Wow, now you are really not making any sense at all. Where on earth did that come from?

Put it this way - if I was to see someone talking about a lucky escape they got from doing something dumb, I would take it into account and use that knowledge with my riding. I'm simply trying to do the same for someone else who might read what I have written. Whatever you want to read into what I've put is your problem, no one elses. I don't see anyone else carrying on about my comments the way you are.

The bike tends to bring out the worst in me to be honest. However, as I am realising this over time and acknowleding it I am feeling more relaxed on the road and not quite so hostile. It is a process, but I'm getting there.
I'd suggest if you're looking for a bike shop when you move to Taupo you head to W.O.T. Motorcycles.

Sounds like you could do with some time in the company of Katman.

I got passed some time ago by a bike that was tapping along at around the 200 mark. His wife was on the back, the road dropped away, at the bike reared up (much to suprise of the pilot I guess) and came down with a small cloud of smoke from the front tyre and a slight shimmer (I had a real good view of it all) things could have gone pear shaped, but thankfully it didnt. I did end up saying something to them about what I had seen, but I beleive the biker involved still rides like how ever the hell he wants to, thats up to him. Who am I to tell some how to treat themselves or their loved one on the road?

    Oh you work there?

Sounds good.... I can always do with a bit of guidance!
