A rose by any other name...

Friday last I stopped in Putaruru for a coffee...(good coffee at Crazy Cow Cafe!).
As I was gearing up to leave, a dude parked his van in front of the bike and came over to chat ...."Is that a Bandit?" "Nah - SV"...."How big is it?"..."650"...."Ahhhh quite big huh? Big enough to get into trouble on eh?"..."eerr yeah I guess so!"
And then he says it..." I saw a bunch of BIKIES back up the road a bit...all screaming past the traffic on the wrong side of the road an' I thought I'm sure that's not sposta happen!" (No this isn't about dodgy overtaking this time.)
This got me to thinking. I haven't heard the term "BIKIE" for yonks. "BIKER" yes, all the time in this forum and elsewhere as well.
So what has happened to that term "BIKIE"? And how recent is the term BIKER? Back in the day, a bikie was a gang member. Is that still so? Is the term even current any more? Does anyone (apart from that dude) call anyone a bikie and if so what is the current meaning of it?
Your thoughts, fellow bikERS, would be pertinant and interesting....

Do you have your period again?

I'd be pissed at being called a bickie. I mean, you dunk those in coffee, right?
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

Ah. Then you should be interested in the distinction between a Wobbler (which I am) and a Wobblie. Which I am not. Despite the promise of pies.
