    Speeding, loss of license... stuff...

OK, some lovely young friend of mine gets caught speeding and had their licence suspended for 28 days – going above 50kph over the speed limit

I don't think they're contesting it just unsure of what happens next... What's the process?
What is the likely punishment – a fine?
    Disqualification?
    Hung, drawn and quartered?

The charge is speeding, not dangerous driving

If it's just speeding then it's just like any other speeding ticket. Just more $$$ and more demerits. Plus the 28 day suspension thing .

A fine, probably in the order of $500-$700. I may know from experience

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

The 28 day suspension thing happens at 41 km/h or more over a fixed limit. In a temporary speed zone (e.g. road works) it is 51 or more.

In addition to the suspension, there is the penalty for the offence. Up to 50 over the limit is an instant fine (infringement), above that it goes to court with a maximum penalty of $1000. At 50 over the limit it is $630, less costs less.

That is if the offence is only speeding. If you get charged with dangerous or careless, that's a whole different ball game.

Cheers - just rechecked - she's only facing speeding, not Dangerous or Careless.

More often than not, less $$$.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
