I think the 85 tickets they gave out should have covered costs quite nicely. Can't see anything wrong with putting the heat on gang rides who are behind the meth trade in this country and those who chose to ride alongside people like that.

Even though the vast majority of those on the run only ride with "people like that" one day a year, for charity? This was a fundraiser, let's not forget that. The St John Ambulance have been happy recipients of the proceeds from this run for seven years now and for that alone I'll continue to support it; you never know when you're going to need them.

Any idea what the tickets were for? I have no idea, I didn't get one.

If they covered costs, trained up some newbies and looked good in the eyes of Joe Public, then great. They'll probably do it all again next year too, and if it's self-funding that's fine.

I can't see the sense in anyone heading out on such a run with no WOF, rego, license or whatever. You're under the spotlight at such an event so anyone who did get a ticket should sharpen their act.

What job exactly? Writing a few tickets out to bikers that weren't playing by the rules? You're probably correct. Or, perhaps there was some other objective beyond the ticket book that necessitated having additional staff assigned to that operation?

The job of lining riders up for WOF, Rego and breath tests. That job.

"Beyond the ticket book"? I doubt the Highway Patrol can see past their ticket book, revenue collecting is (arguably) their primary function. As for the 'real' Police, no doubt all the photographs and videos they took were to see who's associating with who etc. It has also been suggested elsewhere that perhaps some newbies were being instructed 'on the job' as it were. Quite possible.

"Some other objective", is that code for "ulterior motive"?

Speaking of what cost to the taxpayer? Whats the deal with paying more for gas to fund Aucklands transport system? Why did they deem it not fair for Aucklanders to pay for it there the ones who will benefit (no shit).Whilst i extend sympathy to anyone living in the shithole i feel in no way obliged to fund there stay, then again a once off payment to ensure people stay there is another matter.

    It's the easy option.

I actually don't have a problem with user pays when it comes to roads; toll roads, bridges etc eventually pay for themselves and I would like to see more by-passes so that the only heavy traffic to go through built up areas is supplying that area. Through traffic is a right pain for locals, especially at night. A by-pass around Auckland would be good (with no on/off ramps from Bombay to Puhoi) but where to put it?

Auckland has never received it's fair share of the road funding on a contribution basis - Aucklanders contributed to everyone elses roads. But then yours is the typical ignorant knee-jerk reaction of small minded small towners.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

I love living in Auckland - there's nothing wrong with it.

Next time you want to comment on something and not look like an ass, I suggest you do a little research on the facts of the matter first.

If you care so much about charity and the good of the community why on earth would you ride alongside the same gang members who control the drug trade in this country and the create such an incredible cost in terms of wasted lives and money?

    Grow some balls.

Grow some balls? I have already done that and they work just fine. I fail to see what my anatomy has to do with anything.

Nowhere have I suggested that these people are saints but there's nothing wrong with giving a little bit to charity, giving a little back to the community.

I've seen what some drugs can do to people, P especially wrecks lives and there's no doubt about it. However, if you take that stance then you'll be boycotting the Havelock Mussel Festival because it's sponsored by a brewery, look at the damage alcohol does in the wider community and the festival isn't even a charitable event.

If you're so 'anti-drugs' why don't you organise a protest outside Lion Breweries?

Better still, grow some balls yourself and have your own poker run for the St John Ambulance, see who collects the most. Bet you can't be bothered.
