I stop for cars in trouble. Not always (bikes always) depends on whether it looks like they need help or not. Stopped to help a guy in a van with a flat tyre t'other day, he was an old guy , I figure y' can't leave an old bugger stranded. Changed the wheel, no big deal.

From what I have read of Auckland here in kb, your experience is all too common. I think it is typical of big cities all over and not just Auckland. However, I think a lot of big cities in the world have heaps more to offer than Auckland does in compensation.
There is the start of your problems

I Know this doesn't help you much, But there are plenty of good people willing to help down here in Wellington.

I was on my way to work November last year gave my bike some stic of the lights out of Lower Hutt and my throttle cable snapped so which Left me stuck on the side of the Motorway in peek hour traffic.

So many people stopped and offered to help, I counted at least 20 Bikes and 3 cars i was there for a good hour or so. It just so happens an old mate of mine In his work ute was going past recognized me and gave me and the bike a ride home.

Almost a dozen years ago I moved up to Auckland from the Waikato. I was born in Matamata and lived in the Waikato for the first 30 years of my life. On the negatives side: Auckland is crowded with a lot of traffic to contend with and rent is pretty expensive. On the positive side: there are many good buggers living here so I have made many friends, lots of shops to choose from, plenty of bikes around the place, and best of all the torturous job of travelling by car in heavy traffic was enough to get me back to riding a bike after 20 years of being stuck in a cage!

I have been stopped at the lights in Mt Wellington when several car drivers leaped from their cars to help push a stalled car clear of the intersection. Many people will quickly rush to the aid of others, even here in Auckland.

Then there is the enormous amount of pleasure to be gotten from riding a bike on the motorway between lanes of stationary cars, that would put a grin on anyone's face!
All in all Auckland is a great place, as long as you are not trying to travel by car in peak traffic, of course!

Have to ask Mate, how would they have known you to be aged ?
Oh and with regards to road riding ! Who'd want it ?
Never got tooted at on the track now did ya ?
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
