Horribly detuned FZR1000 EXUP motor. 100 wheezy HP in a very fat chassis. Lovely to ride though. Very much an orphan.

Fuel injected and bullet proof as it's detuned exup. You're talking 100,000Km's before you even need to check the valves. Check for warped disks as they're heavy beasties.

Headers look like they need some attention, it'd be a comfy bike to ride I reckon, not to mention quite possibly a collectable in the future.

The muffler grew a big-arse dent between photos 1 and 6.

The FJ1200 was a better sports-tourer, more power, longer legs and better riding position. Plus fans were pissed off that the GTS replaced it and Yamaha dropped the FJ from its range. The FZR was a better sports bike. BMW had better front end technology.

Sales were not great. But because of that they are rare and probably going to be a collectors item and may be worth a look.

And then, along came the FJR1300! Good things do take time.

14 yr old US import with 22K's......... interesting..... you would have to make sure parts will be available in the future (or present come to that)but yeah, not a bad looking machine

Was talking to a trainee at Weltech and they have a GTS there, loaded with electronic technology, his opinion is "too much, when it goes wrong"???
There was one for sale when I got the FJ, all the info I found agreed with what MaxB says. There was a serious kick back at Yamaha for replacing the FJ with an 'inferior' machine. There is a 135hp version I understand, it has a 'sub name' attached to the GTS I think there was one for sale on trade me a while ago. (would be like a Yoshi tune up).
I think the big 'IF' would be spares availability for bodywork, cycle parts etc in the event of the worst happening.
