Ye have to have Scotch heritage to make motorcycling cheap. The whole of my gear in the last 10 years would be less than your jacket. And almost all of that the helmet. M' great-greaty-nuncle Solomon McTavish would have though me a spendthrift.

Well, I dunno bout how much cheaper a bike should be when your log-in says you ride a "tweeked" SV....

But in 17,000+km from new, my bike has cost fuel and servicing as per the book. Tyres are barely worn so I have no idea how long they'll last.

I use it for commuting to work and have to say, with about $20 per week for fuel, free underground parking and being 10-15min quicker, (Orewa-Taka), it really is no contest against a car...

The car would cost at least $60 in gas, $35 parking outside per week and be too stressful in gridlock.

I agree with some comments, though, that your comparison is a little off-sided. Our NIssan Pulsar bought new in '99 is just coming up 170,000km and aprt from the fan rheostat being replaced, has likewise only cost fuel and regular servicing although I've just fitted its fourth set of tyres....

The clutch is not tweeked and it's only small but effective tweeks...clutch I was told is not uncommon and I guess after 54,000k's this is the first major cost...
