I was impressed at manfield the other weekend, a dude on a purple harley that made ALOT of noise and moved surprisingly fast, a quick geez up close revealed a 130? cube motor pumping out 150 odd hp at the wheel ! I told the owner (for the first time ever) that was the coolest harley iv ever seen, as he had forsaken shiny bits for functional bits, nice..

I don't like them...they are proud of their lack of sophistication.

But mostly its the tossers that (can't) ride them, and their snobby attitude.

Not all but many are just wannabe poseurs, no clue what it means to be a motorcyclist!

    This was a 1980s Xr-1000 engine in a 1970s XLCR frame
XR-750 dirt track derived engine bored to 1000 (standard)
    then worked to the max
The XLCR frame was redone from scratch the forks/shocks
were changed! looked like a JAP engined featherbed.
No relation to the new street rod
Would be the only HD id buy!!!!!
    Shit i ride a big sports bike/s
this bike was flat out fun and better than the new HDs
so that theory does not work
I gave this thing sutch a hiding and never manged to break it
(a part from losing an inleat pod)
    what ever

Depends upon the situation really. Some Harleys are nice...

But I particularly don't like Harleys with loud exhausts starting up 30-180 min after I've gone to bed in my tent. It makes it bloody difficult to sleep and get rid of those bloody hangovers...
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

I quite like the look of the latest XR 1200.
Although it would be good to be able to tuck away those exhaust pipes a bit more,as they would be limiting right hand cornering.

It might be 'barn door' engineering (and by that I mean solid, simple, reliable as a f'kin' anvil) but that's what I want. I don't want a variable valve timing Honda for example.

There are some who seem to use the bike as a statement of their 'status' and I've also accused some of being more interested in 'the look' than the bike itself (what it means as opposed to what it is) but that could be said of many expensive bikes. At the other end, there are the 'righteous dudes' who won't let on because they perceive those of us with new Harleys as the aforementioned wankers.

Though you don't ride an old 'Hog' you seem to fit into that category. Bullshit really. You need to take people as you find them. It's the only way to challenge your prejudices. But fuck it. I couldn't give a shit if you think my owning a Harley makes me a prick. I'd still stop and help you out if you were stuck on the side of the road.

I really like the engines on Harleys. Good simple reliable stuff , that can be repaired with a pickaxe and a can opener.

But I can't be having with the chassis design or the handling.

Having said which I saw a newish something at Puhoi a week or so back called I think an XR1200 Harley ? Looked very nice indeed, a Harley with a proper chassis design. Maybe a bit short in the wheelbase is all, same fault as the Buells.

Sorry if it's been said but lazy is as lazy does !
The mothers day races i was in the other week, had a guy win one of the harley races on a big block that ran an s'n's motor ! That thing was a beast ! The only bike that had a chance against him was a tricked up buell (who ran off the track trying to catch him and didn't make up the lost ground) I was truely impressed with the bike ! Not to mention the guys riding !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
