Police pursuit stats.

I saw Anarkist thread on "Police get riders at over 200 km/h.

and found the following statistics. ( old as they are )

"The majority of vehicles involved in pursuits were cars (78.8 percent), followed by motorcycles (10.9 percent). 23.3 percent of pursued vehicles were recorded as having been stolen. "

I was suprised with the Monthly totals for that period.

What does "pursuit" mean.

If PC Plod is coming the other way, and see you and thinks "Oh a mudderboike, obviously he's speeding", and flicks on his reds and blues and hangs a U turn, and takes a couple of minutes to catch up to you : but you stop as soon as you see the lights: is that a pursuit?

Bit harsh init.. I had the same thing happen to me, unmarked car pulled a 'u' and passed about 6 cars to get onto my tail. When I stopped (finally) he asked me why I didn't see him. I replied that I can't see f-all with my mirrors, they give me a good view of my elbows. Also, use the siren dude..

Interesting to see apprehension rates drop to under 70%. Would be good to see how many of those were bikes. I think we would feature quite high.

Would also be good to see number of innocent parties caught up in said pursuits and who was responsible, chaser, or chasee.

I'm fascinated to know what the other 10.3% of pursuits were pursuing?

Its a reasonably significant percentage

Trucks?

Skateboards?

Rollerblades?

Those 10.3 % are USO's (unidentified speeding objects)
Objects going so fast that the cops had no F**in idea what it was that whizzed by....
Consequently they remained unidentified,
and therefor form a big part of the group that never got "apprehended"

i know of a old bloke (father of a senior sarge) who didnt stop for the cop for ages and when he did stop the cop asked him "why didnt you stop" he said "i thought something was wrong with your car".....he lost his licence for dui
