In that order, anything else is an expensive plastic box with pretty lights.........that won't save you from the not so pretty lights
+1 That's pretty much the order of things as I understand it.

A very good off-axis capability is handy.
Last week I picked up on a tax collector who was on a road 90 degrees from the one I was on. Took a good 30 seconds for him to appear and the STi was going apeshit the whole time.
    Thank you again Mr Bel.

A mate of mine has one in his car. I'm not sure what brand it is but it cost around $200 new off trademe and it works really well, picks up the fuzz from quite a far distance. Also great at picking up automatic door openers.

Really happy with my TPX, was new and is all weather, designed for bikes...

Introducing the world’s first fully-integrated, portable motorcycle radar and laser detection system. No more trying to make automotive radar detectors work with your bike. No more missing the audio or visual alerts. No more searching the earth's ends to find compatible mounts. No more hours of wiring jobs. No more fear of the rain. No more fear of theft. No more microscopic buttons. No more money, energy, sanity and precious riding hours wasted trying to make automotive radar detectors work with your bike.

I know of another KB who bought one and is more than happy with the performance. Of course we both had to decide what to do with the $800 we saved by not buying an expensive plastic box.
    How about mounting them?
They are not designed for bikes are they...?
    What about rain?
Don't know much about radars, but unfortunately can't afford not to have "warnings" anymore......

Have a look at the attached link. More thatn you could pay on Trademe.

I also got a good mounting bracket with it and it sits nicely center stace on my monster. The Bike and mount is in Chch, Radar is not. PM me if you want a look at the bracket on the bike.

I used a V1 for a few years. Last year I bought a new Cobra for the kingly sum of $198 and it works just fine. No better, no worse. In fact I prefer the Cobra. It speaks to me in a spunky female voice "train approaching" Ka alert", Emergency vehicle approaching", "Laser alert -get wallet out" OK, she doesn't ask for my wallet. I have named her Brenda and I think our relationship is going somewhere...

Actually Brenda gave me a damn long laser alert a while back. Would have been 1.5km easy. The Cobra must have picked up a lucky mis-aim by the Cop. His marked car was too far away for the eye to spot. I was pleasantly surprised once I got closer and saw what it was and Brenda picked up a second alert once I became his target. She has proven herself very good at picking up radar (Ka) both behind and in front of me. It it by far the easiest to programme i.e. turn on/off X, K and it supposedly detects Detector Detectors. Took 4 seconds to turn the K band on for the new camera vans. It has an external jack as well to run a speaker to your ear.

Mine's a cheap plastic box with pretty lights that works just as well as those expensive plastic boxes with lights. But mine looks better.

I know of another KB who bought one and is more than happy with the performance. Of course we both had to decide what to do with the $800 we saved by not buying an expensive plastic box.
Maybe we can get Brenda and Trevor (my V1 ) together !!!!! ha ha. See ya at the trackday tomorrow huh ? Gaz.

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.
If it weren't for flashbacks...I'd have no memory at all..

Turn K-band off. You only need Ka I think. I get seemingly random Ku detects here and there - dunno what they are.

Leave K band turned on, and if you have already turned it off then turn it back on. The latest speed cameras apparently operate on K band rather than Ka band.

Yes, lots of false alarms when going through towns. I have a power switch to my sounder so I can turn the sound off but leave the display active in town.
    Time to ride
