should be a piece of piss, il probably be giggling like a girl as i do it.
yeah, your old.
Spot on mate, my R100rs and R100rt were the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden , quite an experience to get off a bike having ridden 500 miles and feel fresh as a daisy. A generalisation but for serious mile eating at pace BMW is the brand to look at first IMO.
Anecdotally, for Mr Carver, an acquaintance of mine claims to have been banned from the track at the model launch of Suzukis GSX600 in France. As an invited dealer, he rode the length of France in one day, tested the new bike,Proclaimed to Mr Suzuki that his old BMW R1150s? was much faster and was challenged to prove it .
By all accounts he thrashed the Suzuki with the factory test rider aboard, was grilled by the factory mechanics as to what mods the beemer had, and on being told it was totally stock was asked to leave. He then rode the several hundred miles back through France and made the late ferry home.
Embellished or not, the fact remains that he raced gixer thous at an amateur level but any real world, rapid distance ridding, the beemer would be his first choice against anything he had in his shop.
He was about 28 years old, had access to just about any sports bike going but he believed nothing could touch his beemer over distance at speed.
I'm no great fan of BMWs but they are fuggin good bikes, if a little ugly, long lived, long legged, well built and very rapid in the right hands. So no, not just for old men or if they are then it's a bloody shame.
Oh bugger
nice story, so its the ultimate real world superbike eh?
I think that's the idea mate, gixers are awesome but totally focused on performance which is why they're so good at what they do. I'd love one for a track day or a drag strip but Hamilton to stewart Island and back in the shortest possible time and still being able to stand upright, I'd pick the beemer.![]()
Oh bugger
Yeah, but after the punishment your arse has taken, mere saddlesoreness is not going to rate, no matter how many hours.
