    And the questions keep coming...

Ok, today took the bike for a ride on my fresh new learners....

All was great till I tried to go up quite a steep hill, I think I was in 4th or 3rd and about half way up, the bike coughed to ahalt.... so what are the rules for hills guys?

Also, when I was at the lights (Also on a hill) found it hard to take off in 1st... any tips or tricks for hill starts?

Whats the top amount of RPM I should let it get to in any gear? I guess What im saying is I am changing gear when I 'Hear' it sounds like they need changing, but I seem to end up in 6th doing on 50km... 1st gear doesnt last long, but how fast should I be going for each gear (or Rpm) so Im not changing too early or too late?

Can Motorcycles use car parks? what do you do in a Pay & display area?

Lastly, Can anyone explain why a Bikes Rgeo costs more than a Cars?

Thanks for tolerating my Newbie Q's guys....

Um. change down? Your bike should ahve a rev counter. Keep the needle about two thirds of the way to the red line. If it drops below half, change down.

Bikes, IN AUCKLAND CITY can park on the 'edges' of pay and display areas for free.

Hill starts, first gear , foot brake, release clutch and brake simultaneously and give it gauntlet.

Rego costs more cos they claim we cost more.

Keep the revs up by changing down

Also, when I was at the lights (Also on a hill) found it hard to take off in 1st... any tips or tricks for hill starts?

Same as a car - keep revs up, slowly release clutch, increase throttle as revs drop as clutch takes up. Keep a brake on till you have traction. The book tells you to use the back brake. I use the front.

Not sure what the rev range is on your bike. Keep it freely spinning is about all I can say without knowing more about your bike. Someone with a similar bike will be of more help than I

Can Motorcycles use car parks? what do you do in a Pay & display area?

If I use a metered park I pay as usual. But I rarely do this. I look for a free motorbike parking area usually. I would probably pay and display in such a park but since we don't have many here I would not be sure...

Lastly, Can anyone explain why a Bikes Rgeo costs more than a Cars?

    ACC levies I guess...

Thanks for tolerating my Newbie Q's guys....

Hope this is of some help...

    You are joking right.

Find a carpark with no cars. Jettys are good for practicing emergency stops.

Breed777, use your back brake when doing hill starts!! You will need to have your hand wrapped securely around the throttle for steady, smooth control.. & you won't get that by having some fingers trying to hang on to the front brake at the same time.. use your back brake!!

Read this, it'll help you how to ride in which RPM.
    http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Main_Page

You'll probably want to keep your bike revv quite higher because you don't want to "bog" your engine down. It's also good for the bike. I cruise at 50th in 3rd or 4th for the extra oomph if you need, nice rev, and exit power.

You can park at the end of the street car park at the triangle end. Don't park between car on the white line cuz it's suicide oke:

Rego cost more coz levies cost more.

i use the back brake for hill starts, mainly cos my fingers arent long enough to do that and throttle at the same time. when i first started out, and unsure, i used to let the clutch out a bit [until i felt it "bite"] to hold the bike in place, but thats not good for it.

it will get easier dude... do you know someone with a steep-ish driveway? ask to borrow it for a while and practise.

As has already been suggested, you really should get some one-to-one assistance to help with these issues.

It won't so the bike much good if you attempt hills in the wrong gear. Letting your bike slow to a halt is not good for it.
