When i am splitting like that, i take of as fast as possible (withen saftey), it is all about giving myself enough room.
If I filter to the front I'll try to avoid hanging around and slowing anyone down that's for sure! I will accelerate smartly to an acceptable excess of the speed limit and then cruise along.
Nudging other people or their vehicles is a big no no - and it's quite ok if you feel like a complete cock if you muck it up. Trying to get the fact that you feel like a complete cock across to the offended party could be considered a healthy choice as well.
Other than that, first in first served - and number two is just the fastest loser.
Generally I very seldom see any other bikers who actively lane-split through traffic here in Chch. Didn't see anyone in Sydney either. I'm a bit surprised by that to be honest.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

That's how I feel about it on my rare visits to the big smoke so I tend to get away quick so no-one is held up by my selfish actions. Here at home I don't do it despite the frustration of having to wait behind a car while 2 others go through the intersection (no lights in these here parts)![]()
"More and more girls are keen to get a leg over." Katherine Prumm Sunday Star Times, Nov 2, 2008:
depends how you do it? If you insist on getting to the front at all costs, parking at some funny angle mere inches away from the lead car's bumper or worse blocking the pedestrian crossing while they are crossing - you deserve everything you get.
I watched some cock on a 6 hundy sprotsbike bust his way to the front at all costs one morning, funny part was watching the SRT10 driver take exception to the cock's actions, no prizes for guessing who shit their leathers cause he almost got run off the road - and all for what?? being first and a smart arse.
Fuck being first away at the lights here - one sure way to earn a trip in an ambulance, especially as half these cunts are blind.
It is what it is
exactly - I don't understand why these morons must get to the front at all costs - it defies logic and your own personal safety.
Far safer to split the traffic and sit at least one sometimes two cars back (from the lead car/s) also impedes these morons getting to the frontunless they hop kerbs, drive between the cars and then up the inside to get to the front
Morons will always be morons - the faster they all perish and stop breeding, the safer we'll all be.
It is what it is
Was it a male rider? Maybe he just had to support his insecurities by beating a female on an older bike?
I think it is poor ettiquette, but even worse - poor safety. Many dual lane Wellington intersections are not wide enough to accommodate 2 bikes up front. You are either eating into either lane potentially putting yourself directly in line with a car behind or almost nudging the bike next to you. Add to that wind gusts and it can make it interesting.
I rarely actually filter upto the lights anyway. Would only do it AND maintain behind the rider in question if I knew them, their abilities and takeoff speed to guarantee we both get away. I would never do this alongside.
The dude sounds like someone who will come a cropper one day....
