Why does the Gorge require that short stretch of 80K limit anyway? About 1.5 km of 80k in between two stretches of 100k. The 80 k bit is triple lanes both ways, solid media barrier, probably one of the safer bits of road around. It's a nice little earner, though, and that's what counts.
That left hander (when going down the gorge) reduces visability while the gradient increases the stopping distance significantly and of course the in bound lane is prone to tail-backs...... none of this applies to the uphill lanes though.
