I think that there is a big difference between good-natured banter, pointless posting and personal attacks.

I don't hesitate to deal with the latter two categories by moving such "contributions" appropriately. Don't forget there is a whole category of cry-baby diddums moaners on here whose world falls to pieces when somebody red reps them. A lot of red repping is directly proportional to personal attacks and related disagreements in the forums. Worst of all are the distraught PMs mods get pleading for the restoration of order, crucifixion of the offenders, and for their mummies.

Sometimes good-natured banter degenerates to either or both of the latter two categories. This process can happen immediately or it can take weeks. Sometimes when it's gone "too far" requires a subjective judgement call.

There's just no pleasing some people, many of whom should know better.

I want to know, what the figures are, on those who think this site is over moderated, to accomodate the people who take offence, verses those who feel the mods are doin a great job. This will be done with a poll.

I'm doing this because, of late, it seems to me, that anything slightly outspoken, finds its way to PD real quick, and that to me is wrong. Those that take offence to such things, can just not read those threads, or if something really gets to them, report it. I realise that some things said in here are out of line, but that's what happens in large comunities.

Should it not be, that something should only be chucked out, if it is DIRECTLY offensive, and done on purpose toward another person?

For example, my thread about a 24 hour, two up endurance race, was serious, I wanna do it, but because a couple of us were giving each other a bit of shit, it got chucked to PD. You may argue, that the shit talk warrants the binning, but why, had anyone posted a serious question, or comment, we would have responded in a likewise manner.

Would it not make more sense to just bin the shit talk? Promote the chat room a bit more, and people would probably do it there instead.

    The three options will be...

    1. The mods are moving too many threads to PD.

    2. The mods are doin a fine job.

    3. I dont care.
Third option is good as I do not give a flying fornication.

Well as Spank says his site his rules. Me? I like the anarchy and a good old bitch fight. For me it's all about word play etc. Unfortunately there are only a few like minded souls on here. I can't see the point of mods in a forum. It's only words after all, no ones squaring up in the ring. But Spanks God here so how about a little foregiveness.

    Mods kick ass!

Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true ... they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool." -- Wizard's First Rule

I don't get the need for moderators to be involved so much at all except in dealing with personal attack stuff and then to me it would only be a problem when its PM'd. On site on the threads able to be viewed by all shows what wankers the people that say stuff like that are. If people say stuff on threads I think are dopey or whatever I just don't bother answering.

If I'm in a pub/cafe or whatever talking with people and they get off my topic I don't say go sit in another seat. Conversation just flows from one thing to another and as long as its good natured who minds that. Why are we so precious and pedantic just because its on line typed stuff. If I start a thread and people fill it with all sorts of comment I don't mind, at least they responded.
    Cheers

Thats a fair comment, but if EVERY conversation you started turned into:

    "Honda riders are fags"
"FIZZERMAN isn't very fast and is scared to ride in F1", or...
"Womens thread and Disco Dan hasn't posted yet?!?!?"

....you'd get pretty friggin sick of it, and you'd be seeking more compatible company.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.........I have noticed recently, and have heard comments passed that this place is getting boring, it is quiet etc. I read all sorts of threads on here, contribute to a few, but love the banter that we share. I have been surprised sometimes to see whole threads relegated to PD for the sake of a few stirring comments and retorts, I guess that I really cant complain though as I dont have the job of moderating, but really some of you guys need to lighten up a little

By then the conversation has run out of steam as you say so I'd read or start another thread but not get bothered about it. Personally I have never had a problem on this site but then maybe I'm an old laid back type that never gets controversial anyway and I will keep it that way.

Thanks for the compliment man, you can't be such a bad bastard after all.

I just enjoy the ride so keep at it.

p.s. I was wondering why Finn was sounding so bitter lately but hadn't figured much about the mods dealing to him.

I don't think I've been more bitter than usual but you're right, Joni has certainly focused her attention in my direction. For example, I was sitting at my desk the other day replying to a thread and I let rip a huge fart. I got infracted for it. I think she is still upset with me cause I turned her down.
