Unhappy Crash fixed, not-so fixed (oil/smoking badly)

Well I crashed the triumph just over a month ago.

Long story short didn't have the back brake covered well enough when I had the front wheel up

Anyway thought I was lucky in that all that had broken was the alternator cover. So got another one of those. Did an oil and filter change.............

Started the bike up and its burning oil, oil is going through the exhaust and smoking like hell.

Any ideas of what may be wrong? I'm thinking something may have cracked in the engine?

how long did it sit on it's side for? when bikes run on thier side/ lay on thier side, the oil can run up into the cylinders..... try running it for a while if it sat on it's side for a while....

From owning a Triumph T509 , I know from Guy racing one & talking to shop when they kept rebuilding mine about this , that if the bike has been dropped you MUST !! undo all engine mounts to relieve the stress & then retorque them back up . Owners that haven't have ended cracking cases & worse . The resoning is that the motor is a stess member & when you drop the bike it flexs the frame which tranfers this the the Engine mounts which goes to the case mount points . Your'll need a Star drive to do this . Have you let the motor run for 5min to see if its clears itself ?

I'm not familiar with trumpy plumbing, but there is a chance, with it being upside down and all; that oil has flowed thru the crank case breather tube into the air box. Might pay to take have a look in the air filter box you start it, to see if that has happened.

don't bikes usually have sumthing to stop them doing that when upsidedown though,

i know chinese ones don't i thought the better bikes would though.

Damn! I hope the bike's OK. I agree it would most likely be one of the above things. I've seen enough cars do the same thing affer they've been upside down to say it is pretty likely some oil got somewhere it shouldn't and just needs to burn off.
