    Nicksta's AMCC round 3

    AMCC Round 3
    29th April 07

After asking for sunshine for my second race meet I was hoping I wasn’t going to have to eat my words as Eddy, Jono and I drove towards Puke early Sunday morning. Pulling into the autobahn I was happy to see a tiny patch of blue appearing. Downing the now traditional egg mcmuffin, coffee and protein shake we set up Bent Spanner Racing’s pits under the cover in case of rain. With the Gene broken mum and dad came to the rescue with a replacement in time for practice. This time my big thanks go to Logan for lending me his front break system and rearsets and Jono for working under pressure and installing the rearsets minutes before my practice – you guys rock. In the absence if a Clubmans I changed to F3… … time to race with the big boys and girls!

Practice: Late out onto the track I’m wondering why the VFR struggled to take off, I make it round as far as the corner onto the straight when my bike dies and I manage to get to the side in a not so safe place, first thought, gas tap, sure enough it was on off… Doh! Thanks to the marshal who looked out for oncoming bikes as I flicked my switch to on and started the bike, got the clear and took off, yay, bike goes! Still sluggish, I flick it up a gear, hey, more power this is ok… then up another, oh, more power, the cogs start clicking in my brain, the gears are in race gearing! Telling myself down is fast, up is slow I finish my first lap, time for some practice I speed it up and stretch Tweety’s legs for the first time ever down Puke’s back straight, then the chequered flag appears. Doh, 2 laps of practice and I’m in again. Thank you Jono for putting up with my explanation of what was wrong with the gearing and changing it soo lightning fast for me to race, you’re a bloody legend.

Race 1: Not seeing my race number on the marshal’s sheet, I assume I’m starting back of the grid as my qualifying had to have been slow. Good start, managed to have a good battle with a few 400’s, learned the track and finished a close 16 out of 16. Slightly embarrassed about being lapped by all the 125’s and half the F3 Field, goal for race 2 was don’t break into Jennian, make my lines tighter and go faster!

Race 2: Still no grid position, I positioned myself next to the VFR I had a good battle with. Awesome start, I managed to shoot past 3 400’s down the back straight (must be my power to weight ratio ). Managed to hold the throttle down through Jennian and found a bit more speed through the 2 lefts and right over the hill… yay! Managed to fight off the 400’s for a 13th out of 16. Me = stoked and buzzing. Managed consistent 1:19’s, I wasn’t last and only lapped by the race leaders!! Goal for race 3: keep it up and carry more speed into the chicane before the back straight.

Race 3: Not so good start I find myself in a bunch into Jennian and figured out why its good to have the race line through there, man is it bumpy on the outside! Lost a few places as Tweety danced over the bumps and settled herself for the chicane, phew! Great battle with Greg on his 400, I again took Jennian too wide as I came in too hot, shat myself and was heading for the kitty litter, corrected the bike and Greg took me on the outside into the chicane, I chased him down into the hairpin but my lack of experience had me break to avoid him and he took off. Unable to catch up, I was 14th out of 16, Pulled 1:19’s again and a few 1:18’s… and I didn’t get lapped, so stoked!

So awesome day racing, I had a blast, thanks Greg for the battle, was cool seeing Jimmy out kicking ass, Eddy having a great battle, Frosty: count on me to hold my line! Chris, you were flying, and congrats Jill on your 2nd in the series. Roll on Vic Club Winter Series!

HUGE thanks to Eddy and Jono, Bent Spanner Racing and Logan the VFR man! BIG props to Quasi, www.quasimoto.co.nz for my new race suit, I love it, awesome! And many thanks to Dave from www.kiwibike.co.nz for your ongoing support and encouragement, check him out for all your insurance including track days!

Good for you Nicki. Shame I am overseas at the moment and missed it all. Hope to see you soon.

Thats awesome Nicki...shit it sounds like a lot of fun. I'd blame your pit crew for the fuel-tap mistake

    thanks guys and gals.....
ROFL Speedie, baby steps ay... next time i'll get it all right!
Glad you liked the leathers Sue... and sorry, you cant borrow them, Jimmy needs to get his own

The last 2 days I have found myself stuck in traffic thinking about the track and where i could get more speed, better lines and break less/later.... damn Puke on my brain! might have to do another race if it stays open long enough... and see what Tweety can pull out of the bag!
