It'd pay to cover oneself by bringing camping gear. Just in case there's a detour.

we could make that another weekend ride mate....looks like a doozer of a road too, just been noseying on google maps

could head out route 54, then up no 1 to taihape, then head across the ranges, back down route 50 and home from there, just shy of 400kms (if we start in ashhurst)

    check it out here

although there are a quite a few options as far as which road(s) we take to head east out of taihape....take your pick

Be warned there's 23 odd kms of gravel, but the sealed bits make up for it. If you get a good day (have done it mid-winter with snow on the ranges at times) it's deffinately worth the effort. If there's been a bit of rain it can get iffy in one particular valley. A mate and I did it this time last year on our GBs. There's a nice loop road that by-passes Managaweka coming out closer to Taihapi too. The bit of road cowbowz parked the gsx on the fence.

Totally almost nearly under control. Took me days to release the butt clench on that one.

I blame the Harley rider....he said take the first road on the left. I knew it wasn't that one, so took the second. Twas the third.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    quick note guys

may pay to gas up in hawera at shell on main road into hawera,as if the way you ride you may end up in opunake at say 8.15 or so(6.15 am start, wangavegas say 7.00 ish, hawera 7.45 ish, opke just after 8.00ish)not sure what time rd1 open in opunake if they do on saturday morning.also check out taranaki farmers (opunake branch)as they have fuel via self pump if i'm not mistaken.i'd stop in hawera to make sure(open 24/7). if you filled in hawera you could maybe stop in urenui(20km north n.p) for gas, then get to piopio easily.may join in if not working and go from hawera to n.p with you.hope this helps as pain in ass if petrol n/a on weekends.
