Bad luck man. Wouldn't be the 1st time thats happened there. I've been commuting through that intersection for three years now, every day, so has a workmate of mine. I've lost count of the number of times I've had traction issues there.

I tend to take it REAL SLOW round that corner, especially if running thru on a green (or orange)

One of my workmates commutes on that route also and has had a couple of close calls. You really gotta watch it when it gets a skin of frost/ice over it too. I guess it gets loads of trucks and whatnot rolling through it.

On an unrelated note, I managed to bin my bike on the way to work today. Taking off from the lights that go from Normandy Ave onto Cobham Drive, my rear wheel just slid right out. I've thought about it a good long while and still don't really know what happened. I didn't take off any harder than usual, and the road looked fine. Obviously taking off into a lean with some throttle puts the tires close to the traction limit, but I've never even had a slither before. Yet, today the rear just dropped right out from under me. There was no loose feeling from the tire beforehand, like you normally get when you're pushing a bit too hard. The only thing I can think is that I hit a spot of something slippery and invisible, or that I've discovered the outside of the lower limit of my tires' operating temperature. Or both. It was the coldest morning I've ridden since getting my Storms, so I'm sorta leaning toward the latter option, but again, I'd have expected some feedback from the tire before I found myself on the ground watching my bike sliding through an intersection.

Thank the good Lord for frame sliders; it would be a bit of a wreck otherwise, but as it is the damage is pretty minor. Also had the good fortune to have a friendly cager help me up and get the bike over to the side of the road.
    you legend!

I've already ordered a new frame slider and have asked for a quote on the currently duct-taped rear fairing bit. I bet it's like two hundred bucks for that piece of shiny black plastic. Rotters. I might just leave the duct tape on; it reminds me fondly of my old munted ZR250, which was really held together by the stuff. Takes more than a lowside to make an FZ6 not pretty

I've had some really strange traction experiences on that curve before, eh. One time I was coming in pretty fast down the last straight, toward the curve, and the lights hit orange a bit before I expected...so I nailed the brakes figuring I could stop in time without too much trouble. Only...not so much. I kinda slide through the curve with my rear wheel fishtailing as the lights hit red. I think you're right about the trucks. There are always heaps going through there and they probably deposit their evil truck-stuff all over the place as they go through.

Actually, it's $89 + shipping O.o. I'm picking up the frame slider in about ten minutes, but the plastic will take a week or two ex Australia.
