It's not my fave, but I was recently struck by the attention to detail in Battlestar Galactica (new series) .
The physics of the space battles is right, the strategies and tactics are true to carrier warfare (phlanx and missiles etc) and they really pay attention to the little things like the distortion of radio transmissions, and that "hand-held" feel to the GCI shots is just awesome. It gives is a much realer feel.
That's my fave at the moment.

I can't say I'm a great Sci Fi type but when there's a good one that' another story.

Use to love Blakes 7. Good story line and charecters. Saw a little of the New Battle Star G and liked what I saw. Looked a bit more gritty than the Lorn Green versions.

Use to watch Lost in Space but it got to predictable.

Dune was a great book but the movie less said the better.

Star Wars takes a lot beating. Simple plots but stunning SPFX.

The ending of the Plant of the Apes. Man that was a shocker.

But without doubt the one that takes the cake was a radio play broadcast on a Sunday night in late fifties. JOURNEY INTO SPACE. The Red Planet.

Oooh, Firefly! At my flat we just watched the entire series and movie twice, once normally, and then again with the commentary. We got the soundtrack to both, and read the grapic novel. (More like a novella really)
Hey, if you like Firefly and Serenity, get the grapic novel out from the Wellington library, it links together the series and the movie very well, and ties up some loose ends, as well as having a really gorgeous drawing of Kaylee.

Firefly/Serenity, Lexx, Blakes7 ( first episodes) and rock on Dr Who. BUT reading is better. More scope for the imagination.

"It has been recently confirmed that Joss Whedon will re team with Brett Matthews to write Serenity: Better Days for Dark Horse comics to be released in the fall of 2007 as we see what happens when a heist goes right and the crew finds themselves on easy street. "This new story will take place in the 'Firefly' years i.e., everyone's alive," says Whedon. "Basically, they pull off a heist and everything doesn't go completely wrong. This, needless to say, has never happened, and it's about how they deal with success."
