Do we take things for granted

Just was doing some thinking last night(yes it hurt)

Don't we all take our friends and family for granted and not cheerish them till its too late i for one have done this.

Just give your mates and family hugs anytime and if you love someone beit a mate or family tell them

    Take care and ride safe

I agree. I also think we take far more than that for granted... a short trip into the developing world will show how lucky we are and how unappreciative we can be for what we have in our lives e.g. safety, security, housing, food, health.

I disagree, yeh we've got it better than they have, but if we were happy with what we've got then why would we strive for more?

Take it from me. You should never take loved ones for granted.

It can all change in a second. One day things are great, next you are sitting in a hospital chair wondering if your loved one will come out of surgery alright.

Give them a hugh hug while you can and cherish everyday.

    Quite right.
Maybe we were born fortunate BUT, if you always do what you've always done then you'll always get what you've always got.

Strive...improve...I'll go with that everytime, nothing wrong with putting a bit of effort into your life.

I agree some things are taken for granted but mates? I always value them; there's always a meal, a beer or a cuppa for a mate and if it's time they need, come and take it.

Bloody good bloke Fred Dagg (john clarke) put it well. For all the whining about NooZilund and the stuff wrong here, we really don't know how lucky we are.

    Source: Album: Fred Dagg (Anthology)

At the dawn of the day, in the great Southern Ocean
Where the world’s greatest fish was being landed
And the boat they were pulling it into was sinking
And the sea was quite lumpy, and the weather was foul
And the bloke with the map was as pissed as an owl
And the boys called out “Maui, ya clown, let it go”
In the noise he reached down for his grandmother’s jawbone
and he winked at his mates and he said
“Boys, we don’t know how lucky we are”
“I have a feeling I have stumbled on something substantial.”

We don’t know how lucky we are
We don’t know how lucky we are
We don’t know how lucky we are
We don’t know how lucky we are

I was speaking to a mate of mine, just the other day
A bloke called Bruce Bayliss who, lives up our way
He’s been round the world on an 8th army do for a year, more or less
I said “Describe the global position, Bruce”
He said “Fred, it’s a mess.
We don’t know how lucky we are in this country.
We don’t know how lucky we are.

We don’t know how lucky we are
We don’t know how lucky we are

There’s a guy I know who lives in town
I see him about once a year I suppose
He’s had a coronary since Easter
He’s got a haemorrhage in his ear
He went bankrupt a couple of weeks back
And now his wife’s left him too
I said “You’re looking hot mate,
You’re looking clear, what are ya gonna do?”
He said “We don’t know how lucky we are
To live in this joint mate"

We don’t know how lucky we are
We don’t know how lucky we are

So when things are looking really bad
And you’re thinking of giving it a way
    Remember, New Zealand’s a cracker
And I reckon come what may
    If things get appallingly bad
And we’re all under constant attack
Remember, we want to see good clean ball
And for god’s sakes, feed your backs
We don’t how fortunate we are to have that place
We don’t know how propitious are the circumstances.

We don’t know how lucky we are, mate
We don’t know how lucky we are

We don’t know how lucky we are, get it right
We just don’t realise how fortunate we are
We have no idea, the luck, we possess, collectively
We just don’t know how lucky we all are. Full stop.

Too right, I don't take anything for granted - I value the things I do, the people I meet, and the things that others may not be fortunate have. "There, but for the grace of God/higher powers/my RPG alter-ego PC/dumb luck/whatever belief system works for you go I"

I cherish the moments I have, anytime I feel bad or in a bad situation, I always think "there's someone in the world who would rather be in my situation"

Like pain. I've had a kidney stone and stone the bloody crows if that wasn't flipp'n painful! Anything else comes a paler shade than that! People often ask "doesn't that hurt?" if I do something painful ... my reply? "psh and tosh! Compared to my kidney stone, it don't mean nothing!"

So yeah, I always give thanks for when I'm feeling happy, right as rain and even for the glum times. At least I am able to feel those things!

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
    Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    If life seems jolly rotten
    There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
    Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

    For life is quite absurd
    And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

    Life's a piece of shit
    When you look at it
    Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
    You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
    (Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
    What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

100% agree with every single word!

Life is far too farken short....and most people don't realise that until they have lost someone...and then it's too farken late!
