Unless you're going to go hard-out on the track, you may as well invest in a decent set of sports-touring rubber: Avon Storms, Pilot Road 2s, Roadtec Z6s or Road Attacks. They will serve your weekend riding needs admirably and last about twice as long as squidly sprots rubber. If such a proposition seriously threatens one's masculinity, one could always bung a Viagra up one's bottom.

i will have to agree with you there theres no point getting super soft tyres for commuting u wanna get the hardest peice of rock tire to get best value i personaly reccomend a shinko touring tyre i know someone who got like 10000kms out of one and when u go to the track get a soft tyre on a different rim or just swap it the day before

I have got more than 10,000km out of most of the sports-tourer rears I've run, with the exception of the Battlax 020, which also has a tendency to square-off something chronic. My record so far is 12,000km out of a Road Attack, but the Storm I'm currently running looks like it will beat that -- it's at 10,000km and has only just started to flatten off in the middle.

Don't forget that most of these tyres have a similar compound mate that can be used as a front, if you require a bit more aggression and faster warm-up with the front wheel: e.g. Pilot Road 2 with Pilot Sport 2; Roadtec Z6 with Sportec M3; Storm with Viper; Road Attack with Sport Attack; 020 with 011...

And I got 11,000 out of a Metzler Mez4 before I changed to a Z6. Another 9,000 on that before I sold the GSXR1100 and the Z6 was still going strong with heaps left.
    Yes, I had chicken strips too....about 2mm
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
