Are you guys still going on regular rides now that its a bit cooler?

I'm always looking to go for rides, any time I can and I usually end up going by myself because the only other person I know who rides a bike is my Dad and he never has time to go.

If you guys dont mind another rider, I would love to tag along on a ride one day. I'm always available every Saturday and I ride in all weather, so anything is good if you'll have me of course.

any sundays? We tend to go on a sunday as a few of us work on saturdays a fair bit. Often it is to the hilltop or Akaroa or just a quick squirt to the wheatsheaf or around the bays. But it is usually at short notice by txt, so maybe PM your number so we can add you to the list

Sunday could be a problem. I'll pm my number and see what happens.

My days off vary due to doing shift work that varies each week with the days I work. So I'll try and get some more Sundays off.

You can always post a ride when you are planning to go for a ride - there are others about who do shift work & others who are quite online & wait to hear of a ride that suits them to turn up at.

Heh I tend to decide to go five minutes before I leave to go and I just pick a direction and go. I try not to head east even though you can apparently ride on water and I just cruise around looking for twisty roads that I havnt been on yet.

Is anyone keen to go for a ride on Monday or Wednesday next week?

Wednesday could be good... depends if I get selected for a jury or not, I'm on jury service. If I don't I'll be out of the courthouse around 11.30am or so, could go for a blat afterwards if you're keen. Where would you want to go?

    Pick a direction.

I know the port hills roads pretty well, but any road without much traffic is a good one.

I like going up over Dyers Pass Road and out to Godley House, because it's a nice ride out there, the beer's great value and the food is good... even if you just get spicy wedges. Not too much traffic on the weekdays either which is handy.

you could always challenge yourself DE and head over the port hills road from new brighton (along the top) to Gebbies pass....much more fun and twisty and usually buggar all traffic. One of my fav rides when I only have an hour, and bloody fantastic views... also a good place for a photo shoot of the bike

I could do that... I like heading up through Sumner for a change sometimes too. Only thing is that I'm not too fond of the Summit Road, it's a bloody goat track. Seriously rutted and covered with gravel (and grit at this time of the year), it doesn't do my confidence much good, though I have ridden it a couple of times... I prefer the better sealed roads around the bays.

Went for a bit of a pootle over Dyers Pass Road out to the Wheatsheaf with dyers this morning. Stopped there for a bit of a break, then went over Gebbies Pass and back through Tai Tapu. Found that the only reason I wasn't decking my pegs in the past was because my boots were in the way! Put the balls of my feet on the pegs today, and found that the pegs would touch down instead of my boots getting all scraped. Hehe

I usually do this route myself.

Last time I did it it was pretty good. There seemed to be bugger all gravel down the center of the road which was nice, and I flew around it and had a ball.

    Few hairy moments though.

    That sounds cool.

You feel like a late lunch on Wednesday, weather permitting. If its pissing down I probably wont go out, but if its only cold its cool. I'll just rug up and be right as rain.

Probably just pissed off that you could keep up with them (or that your bike looked as good as theirs at a fifth of the price )

I second that! Does the road get frosty at all in winter? (I plan to take Mrs Oakie over the road in a few weeks when she's a bit more familiar with her bike)

Hey Spuds1234. You got rid of that ratty old bike did ya?
