Thanks to everyone who gave ideas. It is most appreciated. The Goodies video was fantastic - you can't beat british comedy - it's actually funny.

well with the traps i found hard at times,
the buggers would eat the bate.
so i would find something sticky or hard to get off.and try and get the trap to the edge of goin off but watch the fingers.
once i came home to a rat still runnin around with it's head caught so out comes the 22,he he he
which=blood stains and a hole in the floor.not to good

The problem is they have no interest in the baits? Aside from fussy cats.

Are you putting the traps along the walls, in mice "safe zones"? Mind you sounds like the vicaious mouthing the cats gave these buggers has just made them feel at home.

Not going for peanut butter is weird, maybe it's rancid. Walnut is tricky to mount but worth the effort.

The traps with the four "tunnels" leading to the middle and the fuckers get strangled from below are dynamite. Easy to hairtrigger.

Or as most everyone agrees trade in them flash moggies for a couple of killers.
    Insert witticism.

Oh yeah, poison (warfarin I think) makes them thirsty as hell so they go outside, easy enough to keep the bait away from cats and surely if they don't approve of fresh then they'll be safe from carcasses?
    Insert witticism.

I caught 12 in a week using one of those grey traps from the supermarket. I baited it with Pams Super Crunchy Peanut butter. I also use Rentokil 'Squeak' for mice and 'RidRat' for rats. (Similar, but Rat's is coarser).

They don't die inside...they go looking for water 'cos the poison makes them thirsty.

    Congrats!
So, he won't be able to bite the meeces, but will give them a really nasty suck

We had the little bastards eat the main wires for the garage fridge and that ended in a terminal verdict from the insurance man so now i get at least 3 per week with the "Better Mouse Trap" available in shops anywhere.
Just make sure you have the set face of the trap against a wall or make a track for them with cardboard or whatever to funnel them past the trap. They always follow walls or edges ive found.
I use smooth peanut butter and get awesome results.
At work we dont have any traps and i can assure you that CRC Brakleen stops them in thier tracks . Then a painless finishing off is all thats required with a large tool / broom / workboot , whatever is at hand.
I dont have a cat and when my dog , all 45 kgs of him started to chase the pesky criters around i had to find a trap option that worked to prevent the damage he was doing as im sure you can imagine.

Get a hungry moggy with some street smart, Toaster. Would offer to lend you one of our four cats, but they would be as useful as a one legged man at an arse kicking party. Unless it comes out of a can, they wouldn't be interested

Our older cat brings in mice for the kittens to play with, which really isn't what we want her to do but she seems to think she's teaching them stuff they would have learnt from their own mother! Unfortunately she does it in the middle of the night so we have to get up and catch them or we are driven mad for hours on end as the two kittens chase them and crash all through the house.

Living in the country doesn't help - they come in through the garage door and into the house that way. And they are definitely in the bloody ceiling right now so hopefully I can encourage Shelby to head up there and deal to them tomorrow. He's good at that - you often hear him crying when he gets lost up there!

Mice are annoying because they are so hard to catch, but disemboweled rabbits are worse - oh my, the smell!

Tigger (our old cat) has done that too all 7 kittens we've had! It's quite cute, he only ever brings baby mice for them too.

Would a nice steak meal, nice wine and a charismatic host be enough to catch your mouse meeky?
