Honda RC45

Its one of my dream bikes, it will stay my dream bike too. Not because I could never afford one but because I have had so many wet dreams about them and I think reality would kill what Ive been dreaming about and how awesome I think it would be to own/ride one.

After all they are a race biker really...can expect it to ride and behave as a 98 R1. Totally different kettle of fish.

LOL, yeah, can remember working in a Honda shop at the time and pissing ourselves laughing about that story, then a sort of "thank fark that wasnt me" moment. We sold mainly farm bikes but had a new Fireblade on the floor, we all got a grilling about being careful about letting it out on a test ride!

Wonder what the history of that RC45 was before it was recovered, and wonder what the drilled hole was for? Imagine some "patch" member on it!?
Didn't Chris Haldane get a Ducati Corse racebike nicked around the same time?

Roughly around the same time wasn't there a bike swiped from Tommy's Yamaha in similar circumstances

Heard the story that the RC was supposedly going to be used for a bank job

but who knows??
Apparently the hole was drilled for some sort of ram-air ducting

Think at the time RC was taken it was thought that it would have been stripped & shipped overseas

Didn't a salesman go with him on a CBR400? I think that was how I remembered hearing it. He said the thief must have been a good rider because he just took off and dropped him.

think the story went that the test pilot had been told not to exceed a certain speed then once they got out the city limits it was bye bye time

That's a lot of money for a 17 year old Jappa! But then what other Jappa has the aura of the RC series?

And more importantly, when are Honda release a road-going RC211V?

Sennandy, good luck finding the right bike. If you keep the Senna, you're gonna have one hell of a gargre!

I'm not sure that there would be much to gain from having a bike with more potential than the current blade. It's almost an RC211V with a warranty as it is! Honda are a funny company though... I wouldn't put it past them to build an evil road going 800 just to amuse themselves.

Yeah, that's quite true.
The RC45s sold for homologation purposes were nothing special until you spent a fortune on the HRC go-fast bits. Even at the time, a stock RC45 was less potent than a GSXR750 or ZXR750. In fact, when Aaron Slight started racing the RC45, it was absolute crap compared to other bikes: waaaay down on power, and then when HRC addressed that, they had problems with it understeering in corners.
Still a very kewl piece of kit, regardless.
It's not all about performance, y'know.

Hardly, you must have read too much Honda marketing. The RC211V has a V5 and the RC212V has a V4 engine. The CBR, like all CBRs, has an inline 4. And a pillion seat.

So it's not a 5? And? It's also got an arse load of power, killer brakes, a crazy arse chassis. How much closer to a motogp bike do you think you'll need?

I want a full pit crew warming my bike up in the morning, tuning, checking. I want brolly dollys, I want two bikes (one with wets just in case it's rainingthat day), I want gophers cleaning my leathers and helmet (oooh). That's a start.

I have always liked the RC45 I have pictures of one that Joey Dunlop was running around on when I was at the IOMTT a good few years back and the history of it all just blows me away and always has.

I have had many many bikes and have only really wanted a couple, by that I mean really really wanted, I am not saying I didn't like my other bikes but we all have bikes we would like, would want and really really want.

1. My current bike a Ducati Senna
2. An RC45

I also liked the bimota RV500 2 stroker, but they have never got a good name but what a lovely bike.

I will not be paying $45k for one and may wait till the right one come up for the right money, you can pick one up in the UK for about 10k(GBP).

As for the guy who thinks an NC35 is better well, you just keep dreaming.

Is it not amazing that a bike that is as old as this has so much history and is still talked about with so much love and affection, by all.
