Yep, a really nice days riding.

Met the Welly crew at top of takas then cruised to Carterton for brunch via Martinborough. Somewhere during lunch I had the new name of Kringe bestowed upon me- cheers BB#1

The Ashurst group turned up with Ronin, and after a good stop we saddled up and headed off for the backroads north of Masterton. Enjoyed a twisty ride up to Alfredton and Eke where we said goodbye to the Ashurst lot.

After some confusion with turnoffs to Mauriceville, we all ended up on the same road going in the same direction and gave it a wee blast with Ronin. Down to Greytown for a quick farewell drink and cruise back up to Masterton.

Now for an early night after staying up to watch the Americas Cup and All Blacks last night then riding all day

Looks like you guys had a good ride and a good time had by all, good on ya. Sounds as though the weather in Welly was as nice as it was down here - cracker day, sunny and warm. It's been freezing cold for three weeks and today was just perfect, right on time for BEARs / buckets Winter series round 2 at Ruapuna (where I was today, look for vids sometime soon!). Still, I would have liked to have been riding rather than filming... maybe you guys can let me tag along sometime? I am an honorary arrogant wanker, doncha know... Long ways up from Christchurch, but that isn't about to stop me....

Yea.. what happened at the turnoff? I have to do some more riding up that way, good place to practice my cornering.

I am nearly almost hardly ever confused most of the time...

And he needs to keep his bike inside. Those Daytonas are pretty soft ey???

Yeah well I talked to Krinje and BB#1 about how we had to turn left on to what used to be the old part of SH2 before the bypass towards Mt Bruce went in and then I said we had to turn left off that road to Mauriceville. Kinje had said turn before the bridge which didn't sound right to me so I think we were on a different wavelength.

I pulled over earlier to get a Nissan Terrano off my arse and then when we got to the turnoff Kinje went straight on while I went left. Kinje then lead many into the Mt Bruce end of the old SH2 road and when I got to the Mauriceville turnoff I waited and that's where I took my last photo and eventually everyone made it on to the Mauriceville road whether they went the way I went or the longer way Kinje went.

The difference in distance is, I doubt, no more than a kilometre so no worries and no-one got lost.

That road was nice and quiet so certainly a good bike road as long as you don't arse up at the railway crossings.
    Cheers

Brief schpiel on my blog http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/bl...9500&entry=200

Didn't take many pix today as I was staying at the back most of the time, taking it easy on the tyres and so Lissa felt she was on a group ride. Good fun though, puttering/rocking along, tunes blasting away. I'm definitely in for a set of Avon Storms this week though.

A few pix in Mstn. Set the continuous shutter mode to catch the riders coming up to the Mstn Mobil, but 4 of 5 pix were a bloody great truck. Did manage a helmet on one of them though.

and the last few at Mst & Alfredton.

Thanks BuckBuck & Cheers fellow riders. I had a good day and look forward to the next one. An earlier start for a 500 - 700 km ride sounds fine to me.

Road To Alfredton - Good Ride and Technique Development

Here is the Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise? link:

    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=52243

When I took the ride up to Alfredton last Monday and again today, I think that that 42km stretch of road, and also the road back through Mauriceville, are very good for riding technique development, the roads have a good mix of conditions.

So please in the next day or so jump over to the link and give us a few words on your Winter Solstice ride today.

    Much Appreciated

    Heads Up and Enjoy

OK did a short post for you over there.

Man look at the weather here now I'm glad I'm in the office though I did venture up town for a while, but doesn't that make yesterday even more fantastic that we got the right weather in the weekend and not when we are stuck at work.
    Cheers

If you are interested here's the track off my GPS for this ride and yes I still haven't gotten around to buying a decent mapping package because on the GPS itself the maps are fine. I've just included the track from up the 'takas to the furtherest point at Alfredton to make it a better scale. So now you know where you went eh.

Birds eye view, thanks for that Merv.
