I find it interesting that people have become desensitised to gruesome images, such as people being mutilated in car accidents.

I'm not convinced the replacement campaign will be any more effective.

Which is probably correct if you apply their definition of speed to the statistics. And that definition includes speeding as in 'exceeding the current posted speed limit' and as in 'going to fast for the conditions' irrelevant of whether you are exceeding the posted limit or not.

What ratio of one to the other makes up the total of accidents I don't know, but we are all well aware they choose to pursue reducing the 'exceeding the posted limit' occurances as their nirvana solution to the problem, and pay not much more than lip service to driver education and better roads to ensure people drive to the conditions.

All this probably stems from a government demanding certain results in terms of reductions, but expecting those results to be delivered from one department (the Traffic Police) rather than a combined effort including roading and other agencies, and expected to be delivered to certain restraints including but not nessecarily(sp) restricted to budgets.
