    Silly question time

    Do race bikes have keys?

As in the motoGP and superbike stuff?

Or do they just have a "go" button?

Or some other mysterious way of starting.

Pondering this world shattering question, as I lost my key last week and had to take the barrel out to get another couple re-cut.

And led me to think what would happen if the pit crew managed to lose the key on race day . . .

race bikes would be push start or start by servo i would think

although some of your average weekend racers probably still have starters in them

A lot of proddy race bikes will have the key tied to the bike so you can't forget it. MotoGP/WSB/etc don't run an ignition system as you think. Either they are bump started or started by a roller.

So what is "start by roller"? Like a wind trainer on a bicycle?

Believe it or not mate, quite a few of the Superbikes still run starter motors.
They can get down to the min weight no trouble, so can afford to run them.

Mine has a starter motor and charging system, but doesnt have a key. All I do i turn it on and start it up.

I do still need a key to open the tank, but will change that some day too.

Keys are a thing of the past man! haha

But mine is far from World supersport standard!

Especially World Superbikes. The use of carbon fibre etc...and the weight limits aren't that low anyway.

I haven't yet had a racebike that I have needed a key for...they hav all been wired to the kill switch etc, which is lucky because otherwise I would've missed a lot of riding
