While tempting, seeking or giving relationship advice online is pretty tricky. I don't envy anyone who have been through one of the situations in this thread.

Sorry, having started this post I find myself a bit lost already. Why are you divorcing? He had an affair, right - do you mind? Like, seriously, was it being lied to that hurt? The affair itself? It sounds like you're both good friends and if it's over then perhaps you can use it as a basis to rebuild the relationship. Fix what's wrong because, frankly, it sounds like very little.

That being said my Mum and Dad divorced when I was 14. Probably the smartest move either of them ever made. It was all done reasonably and in a restrained and basically respectful fashion. It took them a while to get their shit together afterwards (Dad then went and left the woman he left mum for, good job too) but now they're living in their separate places, both remarried, living dramatically different lifestyles and both much happier as a result.

jst a we footnote how my life.changed in 2 weeks.there are some really good replys in here....thanks for coments.iam an a engineer by trade...for the last 3 months i have been worried sick about my life.tangs of suaside...what a mess also..loosing half of my lifes savings.didnt give me much joy.chatting at work the other day,, and a mate of mine says why dont u piss of to oz,,, there are some really good jobs out west ..got a mate out there.now hows this for a job... 6 weeks on 2 weeks off.the company will fly u anywhere in oz and back ..$100 TO $120 AN HOUR. do u believe it ,,free food and accomadation..whats the site like asks me...in the middle of nowhere.fly in fly out.3 swiming pools..bar. rec centre...even sweet ladys .if a man desires.(hang on iam married.).no iam not anymore..sounding better all the time,so heres the plan, got a daughter in surfers,owns a lifestyle block.the garage is fully decked out,kitchen.dunny.15 mins from the beach. thats me..go and join the foriegn legion in perth..pull some big bucks.3 to 6 months,back to surfers..bikin..forever..yahoo.what about the house,,fuck the house and the ex.i can hide i n oz for yrs.hoping to slowly wear the missus down get the caveat of the house.and sell it.course i will give her something..but not $350 000.next day iam walking down the street and bump into a asian lady i have nown for yrs,,,,cut a long story short ,,new chicky on the way,things are looking up,better take my heart pills ..she is 30 yrs younger than me,last week i wa sitting here and there was a knock at the door.FUCK its the ex.....shaking like a dog shittin razor blades.wants to come back.will lift the caveat .sell the house and come to oz with me.FUCK wot to do...in the mean time the new lady is going back to thailand and neads some company..ferk thats me...place called Chang mai...bikin country..been there.will post some pics,when i get there.come back sell the house ..go to oz..with the ex,if she pisses me off..i will go and join the foreign legion...(like fuck i will..i will fly back to nz.and go and visit my new friend) i have put this post in here for a reason...a month ago .i was ready 2 jump off the harbour bridge..how things can change in a mater of weeks,to those people who are going through divorse..seperation.wht ever..i know at the time life feels hopeless...but there is lite at the end of the tunnel..also there is help.from a lot of peeps,(fuck i should no this is 4 th time.) and it wasnt a barrel of monkeys......Thank fuck ive finished,starting to get that thing women typist get..H.I.V in the finger....Regards KEVTHEKIWI..

Nice that life has turned a corner for the better kev.
The ex is entitled to half AFTER expenses , I.E. the mortgage..So the $350k you speak of would only be a reality if the property was freehold !!
Even if it was/is a freehold property the legal expenses,land agents fees & anything else you can put on it are deducted from that figure.

yeah i know m8....the property is freehold,,,,its valued at 700..pus half assets.boat.car.left testacle..etc..etc.sounds like u have had a bit of a bad run.......its a cunt when things go wrong..cheers KEV

Thanks kev, my run was 7 years ago , the ex & I get on well now, I have recovered somewhat from the experience & moved on.
I have my own place again (in a trust) & have remarried to a great lady

Life is good

Still can't get past the old addage though :
IF IT HAS TITS OR TYRES IT WILL GIVE YOU TROUBLE

yeah i had my 1st one 25 yrs ago..still comes back every now and then..not to much about 1nc every 2 yrs.

Don't divorce her... you have to actually get divorced for her to get half... just send her off to Thailand, and don't let her come back...

WRONG legal seperation is enough .

Now if he followed her to thailand THEN he could go her for half of her properties there.....

no way mate...i lived there.for a start we arnt allowed to own land in thailand,also.u can change a property name in minutes.dont even need a lawyer.she got wind of any of this id b fucked..also u can get someone killed for about 200 bucks..its a very corupt country..money buys anything...theres some dam good riding though...hard out and then come to a small village.the people are so nice..going up soon,,ALONE ,any takers.
