Fatal in the Tron today (30 April)

Big Police presence. No idea of the circumstances, just drove past. Was running on the radio news and traffic alerts too

"It is unclear whether alcohol played a part in the crash."

Well, why the fuck mention it in the story until it IS clear? Even if the first on the scene smelled alcohol, he could have had a bottle in his backpack which broke, or he may have just had a drink a few minutes earlier but not have been drunk.

Of course if it does turn out to be clear that he was drunk in charge of the motorcycle, then he only has himself to blame. Until then, I wish they wouldn't speculate on the cause.

Firth and Wellington - not far from The Cook, the Eastside and the Riv - without speculating I wonder how much the cops knew before the crash....

I'm a journalist so I'll get the blame - I was getting in first! Bad reporting in any case. Would have been better to say "it is unclear what caused the accident..."

    FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN HAMILTON
New Zealand Police National News Release
    3:44pm 30 April 2009
    http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release.html?id=5052
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While Waikato Police work to establish the cause of a fatal motorcycle crash in Hamilton this afternoon the name of a Te Kuiti man killed in a smash near Pirongia on Tuesday night has been released.

He was Anthony Whareroangatapara Marsh, 22, of Te Kuiti.

Mr MARSH died after the car he was driving failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a tree on SH31 near the intersection with Te Kawa Rd.

In the latest crash investigators are still at the scene working out what caused the crash that claimed the life of the male rider of a Ducati road bike in East Hamilton today.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Wellington and Firth Streets about 12.53pm.

The man's death brings the Waikato's road toll to 16 compared to 21 for the same period last year.

Today's fatality was the first road death in Hamilton this year and comes at a time when Police and other agencies are working to highlight the issue of motorcycle safety in the Waikato.

A joint safety campaign with the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is set to begin in Hamilton on the 19 May and is the urban phase of a safety campaign launched in the Coromandel and Hauraki Plains areas late last year.

    "Interesting" way of putting it.
I know the Police in my husbands case "took the unusual step" of revealing alcohol was suspected before the test results were officially back, in initial media reports...so we had to wait for confirmation for about a week?

    Anyway...RIP, condolences to the family.

Having seen your underwear, anything is possible
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
