I personally maintain that violent video and (more especially) violent video games play a part in desensitising kids to this kind of stuff, so actions in the real world simply become an extension of what they did on screen.

If they ever find out who they are Im suggest the courts order the kids to pay for the kittens' immediate medical and ongoing care. Sell the kids' ipods, phones, xboxes, CDs etc.

    It's totally inexcusable behaviour.

Ya reckon? It never did me any harm. Well, much harm. Apart from the obvious.

Maybe if they are playing the really violent stuff really young, that would desensitise 'em.

Still comes down to the parents letting em play them, I suppose.

Yup - but I hasten to add it's only a part of it. How big or small I don't know.

Law or no law, if I had a kid that I found doing something like that to an animal (or another kid) they'd be getting a bloody good hiding, and if I went to jail for doing that, then so be it, I deserve that for not teaching my kids that you don't treat other living things that way. Fuckers!

But then you get into a Nature/Nurture debate.

Could be that the parents that let their children play restricted games are the kind of parents who aren't providing an ideal structure for raising kids to not be psychopaths anyway.

If the army's willing to invest millions into desensitising their soldier that way - I'm willing accept it. It's a demonstrable phenominon.

And yes to your point about the parents. I was going to add to my original response it's about respect. I'll gladly take kids shooting with me to teach them about respect for animals. Yes it's about to die, yes I'm about to kill it... but first and foremost I respect it. If you don't have a damned good answer to the question "Why am I trying to kill this" ... then you don't.

If it's only the challenge - shoot targets.

If it's about proving how good at stalking you are - shoot photos.

Yes, because even if someone does dob them in, there is no way that our current justice system will go even a small way towards making them pay for their actions.

The other half said he just hopes that they try doing this to one of their siblings later or that someone does it to them. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and bewilderment that those kittens went through while this was being done to them. Unforgiveable under ANY circumstances.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Would a fitting punishment be cutting off their left thumb (something unique to humans... they don't qualify as human beings and so don't deserve them) and tattooing "I have no thumb because I cut off a kitten's foot" on their forearm?

    Just my thoughts.

And I'm sure the reason you speed is because you played MotoGP '08 a few too many times.

No - I speed on ocassion because I enjoy the adrenalin rush. What's your point?

(no really - I got your point... I suspect you're wildly off target and wrong... but I got it. I suspect you're trying to largely or wholly attribute the behaviour to the gaming world in an attempt to have the point look silly enough that it rebuts itself... sadly for you that's not what I said.)
