cant remember when i went..86 i think...the ice had started to form round the edge of the lake.Had exteded HEAPS in the morning.I think it was said to be -17 o night.
Which year was it (early 80's) that we had to scrape the snow off the ground before pitching the tents?
It was the year before we rode the bikes on the ice.
A pity they moved the event forward from the last weekend in June to the first. Those 4 weeks make a big difference to the temperature. But this year is shaping up as being reminiscent of those early rallys.
Time to ride
Not being one to let a lower air temperature, put me off a Sunday ride. 5 degrees in Alexandra... passsing Cromwell it was reading 3 degrees.
Had to stop at the Deadmans point bridge for a photo.
The sign says it all...

only ever remember one brass with snow, the reason I remember it is I drank rasberry and ouzo (never touched it since) woke in the morning to a red door matt meleted 4in into the snow... 87 maybe?
ps: just looked at Rashikas badges and her only 80's brass it snowed, but compairing badges to mine it was 85, my 1st year... never snowed then?

The one year I did it - some time in the 80s - we pitched the tents in snow. OMG - I can't believe I'm thinking of going again this year.![]()
Don't think can a afford to go this year anyway
