I thought I read somewhere that is dangerous to try move too quick on a GN 250
as at the revs and the strain placed on the motor, the valve springs start to wear and eventually let go?
I cant find a source for that right now however.
could just be the chinese ones?
I know it goes over 90km but can't tell you how![]()
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here. QWQ
I only got a 2005 one to 115kph downhill and lying on the tank
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death...
142km/hr on a very long flat road, little wind on a stock GN250 with the carb tuned, sitting on the pillion seat with my head on the tank.
Thats 2nd place, 1st is Banzai with another 5km/hr or so but he changed the sprockets and putting a screen on his (he's also a skinny fella).
So you COULD loose your license on the open road on a GN 250![]()

I had a GN250 for about 3 months, got sick of it. Its a good first bike, you really cannot do anything wrong on it. I would have to say, that the top speed for me was 90-100kms and if I was going down hill, I got to about 120kms. Infact the only time I really got excited on it was when the baffle fell off (and it was new bike) it sounded kinda cooler... for a GN. Couldnt pass cars on it though, all they had to do was speed up alittle and then I was ferked.

Man you needed to really ring the snot out of it then Lissa
I managed to overtake a busa bus. Mind it took about 500 metres to do it, but I managed
Yeah the trusty GN is not a speed demon for sure, even chopping down a gear or 2 doesn't help that much, just seems like the engine is going to explode!
However, it is a really reliable commuter bike, and a great learner machine. You wont get in trouble on it (unless you still have those plastic OEM tyres and ride in the wet) and it is a perfect choice for a learner that needs to build confidence.
I did ring the snot out of it, but my bandit is way better (160 top speed, but am sure it can do better)
But yea, the plastic tyres which mine had arent good, best to change them. As a learner bike I agree its a good confidence booster.

huh? Drop a gear? No more RPM to go until redline!
All this talk about GN's make me miss minei did 12,000km or so on it in 6 months! rode it to Cape Reianga, Taranaki, Rotorua and Gisborne on tours with my mates! sure you arrive a bit later, but you spend barely anything on fuel!
