I had my R90S from age 22 to 37 then handed it over and got into Guzzis
    What does that say?
Must admit, during my BMW phase I seemed to be outside the demographic for sure.

Not too many BMW owners adding to this thread.

You finally found out that Guzzis are BMWs with an erection?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

i think bmws are great bikes but theres no way you can compare them to other bikes, they are in a league of their own, nice to ride and packing all the latest tec but they are ugly as sin! im guessing that is why people think they are only for old people because all of us young cunts put looks near the top of the list when buying a bike.
If practive makes perfect, but no bodys perfect then why practice?

    Well he's got me there!

The looks was the 1st thing that made me stop and look at a Daytona!

    Ok I'll bite.

My bmw's may be old, and they may be ugly but 99% of maintenance stuff I can do myself. Valves clearances take 20 minutes and require take a 10mm & 12mm ring spanner. I can tune it myself and fix 99% of potential issues on the side of the road.

And they let me do lots of road miles, as well as lots of this on the same bike on the same day.

Can't figure out if I'm an old bastard, a smug bastard or both though.

    Agreed.
A pity you couldn't say the same about the 1200GS.

when i had my k100rs it was the 10th of 11(of 12 now)It was certainly different to all the others....and in some ways the best..... by far.....They seemed to know what was required and how to get it..even the much maligned switchgear made sense when you had had the bike for more than 2 hours

OK ,Im on my third Beemer,1st one purchased when 30,done a few k's on em.I reckon they are a reasonably capable all rounder, what power they have () is easily usable.Highlander, good choiceman .
Duncan McKee from Welly could prove to any one that they can be a capable track bike in the right hands.(Any one remember his ex Mot race bike)

    BMW's for old men.

    I'll bite too...
When I took my R75/5 to Europe in the late 80's I didn't see to many Japanese, British or Italian bikes riding around Eastern Turkey, behind the Iron curtain or up in Norway at the Artic Circle.
Also did the Elefantreffen three times in the ice and snow, twice with a sidecar.
..and back then you were on your own with whatever spares and tools you could carry...no Motobins, mobile phones, email or internet.

If I was gonna do it again I still think I'd take the R75/5.
    my 2 fennigs worth

...anyway back to fitting the heated grips to the Duke.....
riding in the ice and snow frost nipped my hands......

Getting cold out there, best I "winter" my bike and move the rocking chair indoors (or get the young uns to do it for me).
