If anyone is going out around Lyttleton be careful if you are coming from Governor's Bay direction as the sharp right hand turn to head to Lyttleton has grit over it. After that the road to Lyttleton has grit here and there all the way there.

Mucho thanko. looking at the clouds coming in it will have snow on it tonight!
Doh wish i read this earlier! Not that anything bad happened but that i went through the tunnel and went towards governers bay and there was gravel and it made me sad. Didnt know how long the gravel was spread over so i turned around and went home... No point playing the gravel game.
Is it spread from governers bay to gebbies pass at all?
That road was ok. There was a little bit of grit on part of the road but nothing to stop a learner like me riding and enjoying it. Most of the road it grit free so worth a ride. It was the latter part from Governor's Bay to Lyytleton that ruined the ride and was bloody dangerous!! There was no warning before the corner and the grit was right in the middle of the road where you turn. Rear wheel is dodgy as doing that turn. Oh well I leanrt a valuable lesson on that ride!!

In winter months, there will be a lot of roads that will be gritted. NO signs are ever put out for this. Take care on shaded roads. All roads for that matter.
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
Went through to Westport and back from Picton ( down from Hawkes Bay ) over the Qs birthday weekend and must say the roads were well signed for grit/gravel etc
Was impressed as there were numerous dark spots where ice could form so atleast somebodys doing their job with the old motorbikers in mind
Blenheim - Wairau Valley - StArnaud - Murchison - Buller Gorge - Westport
Man I love that road !!!!![]()
yeah just got back from a ride out that way, all up the hills are gritted but at least its signposted.
I went over down, gov bay side turned right went right at evans pass turn off and back up the hills - knew it would be bad, grit + low sun made it a mission at walking pace in some spots.
Glad to get off the hill really, i'll leave it alone until summer methinks. On another note, I saw an L plate rider on a new 250 dawling their way up the hill minding their own business which is all good and well - until I saw them riding over the grit each and almost every corner![]()
Not the place for learner, especially in winter![]()
Maybe the 250 rider needs a bit of advice. Luckily I have a great teacher who gives me awesome advice and feedback on my riding.
Glad that you had reasonable ride.
