Many many things, including biking ARE inherently dangerous. Aeroplanes, sharp knives, paragliding, scuba diving, promiscuous sex, all have great risks associated with them when you stop and take a look at what is really happening. It's just that they are relatively forgiving for newbies who just dabble in it or those who take it seriously, and relatively UNforgiving for the unwary, untrained, of those who push its' limits.
You could buy a bike and only ever putter on it, and quite likely you will never be at risk. You could get extensive training on it, and reduce your risk greatly. Conversely, you could crackle around on it at lightspeed, and be at enormous risk every day.
