I think D is very restrained in his group riding, sensible and setting a good example. Group rides are a lot of fun but inherently more dangerous than riding alone or with a few mates you are comfortable with, knowing their style etc. ALL the large group rides I have been on have had some absolute fuckwits that obviously think they are the best. I never have a problem with anyone wanting to go faster/slower than me, that's personal choice, but you should still ride with respect to others. The Akaroa road is a great piece of tar, but there are far too many accidents and the cops are starting to hammer it. Although cops say speed is the issue, I don't believe it is, and if we just showed a bit of respect for others in our riding then the Ackers road can continue to be motorcycle heaven for us all. Are you aware that the local Ackers cop is wanting to set up a 'meeting' with motorcyclists to discuss the way that some are using that road?? If we want the cops to treat us fairly then let's ride that way. ( a bit off topic sorry)

Good post- it deserves a thread of its own. I sold my road bike to go racing, partly because I realised I was pushing it a bit on the road. Eventually I'll get back out there I guess, but what will I be going back to? Sadly I think that those that ride without respect will continue to do so, because its all about them proving what an awesome riding god they are. The end result will be more accidents, and the police will be forced to crack down heavily on what is the only decent road close to Christchurch.

On the 'riding god' thing, those with long memories will remember when two of the fastest KB road riders at the time went head to head at Ruapuna. From memory the times managed times on their late model 1000's were just slightly faster than what teenage Streetstock riders are doing on bog standard RG150's, and well under the top times for F3 bikes with less than half the power. Which goes to prove that if you really want to see how good you are, you need to do it on the track under controlled conditions and against equivalent machinery. 'Giving someone the learn' on the road is really all about who is prepared to take the most risk. Risk to their licence, to themselves, to their wallet, and to other road users.

EDIT: oops. So much for my memory! Kickaha has pointed out that they were both a fair bit quicker than an RG150 racer, and did reasonable F3 times

As a road captian D considers everyone involved in the ride, and because of this usually get the job due to the respect others have for his ability as such

Inherant problem with the Akers ride, even before it was tar-sealed it has always been the local ride that people believe they have to prove themselves against others on, it's just the nature of the road and the locals who ride it, there wouldn't be one motorcyclist in the region that hasn't ridden it or knows the reputation the road holds; every region in NZ has one piece of road that fits the dynamics of this road and no matter how policed it is or the such like it'll always be what it is (Its been heavily policed in the past and will be in the future, but it wont change what it is).
Unfortunately there'll always be that small percentage of motorcyclists who step beyond a reasonable approach to what the road has to offer and draw an element of distain towards the whole population of bikers that use it. There'll always be accidents through there, whether it be by unintentional means or just sheer stupidity but that's where the biggest problem lies because the acts of stupidity are the ones that draw the most attention bring the most ridicule

Its a mint bit of road, and yeah it certainly encourages you to ride quickly. The key is to do it safely, and with consideration for the safety of other road users. If people don't learn to do that, one day it could end up with a 60k speed limit

I have read the coments that a lot of you have added and they are all valid good points, i`m just going to make one last post on the subject and thats all, if what i had been accused of, i was gilty of then i`m man enough to stand up and admitt fault, but when someone fabricates your riding who wasn`t on the ride that day and talks out of his arse to make him self look big then go ahead nock your self out, I just think your a dick, you can talk as much shit to who ever wants to listen and twist any way you like it to suit.
I`ve wasted enough of my time on this subject you must have a really sad life, your welcome to it.

Missed the ride, and I was a bit annoyed at the time but now after reading ........ maybe I'll miss the next one.

I can get myself into enough bother riding alone on that road without having to prove myself to anyone, or waste my concentration on someone being silly in my space.

Group rides - in theory a bloody good idea with like minded people, but ........
